02 February: Formula 1 Testing - Valencia - Day 4

Fourth day of testing at Valencia with 8 teams present and 16 drivers setting lap times.

Once again World Champion Fernando Alonso set the fastest time of the day ahead just a fraction ahead of Jenson Button and Felipe Massa.

Alonso's fastest time was a 1:10.904.
Anthony Davidson driving the Honda RA106 covered the most number of laps with 128 laps.

Alonso improved on the record time for a V8 powered F1 car that he set yesterday by three tenths.
By comparison, the fastest time set in 2005 was a 1:09.005 by Kimi Raikkonen in the MP4-20.

MotoGP Champion Valentino Rossi struggled in the Ferrari spinning at least 4 times going off into the gravel on two occasions.

There were numerous red flags during the session. Jenson Button and Michael Schumacher suffered engine failures, Kovalainen suffered a hydraulic problem, Juan Pablo Montoya had an electrical problem and both Williams drivers had gearbox problems.

There were also numerous spins on the track.

Weather conditions were sunny with air temperature reaching 19 degrees while track temperature reached 18 degrees.

Testing continues tomorrow with 5 teams as Ferrari, Honda and Red Bull have concluded their tests at Valencia for this week.
