The FIA have asked the McLaren team to appear before an extraordinary meeting of the World Motor Sport Council on the 29th of April following the misleading of the Australian GP stewards by The McLaren team and Lewis Hamilton.
The FIA statement read:
EXTRAORDINARY MEETING OF THE WORLD MOTOR SPORT COUNCIL
Vodafone McLaren Mercedes has been invited to appear before an extraordinary meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Paris on Wednesday, 29 April, 2009, to answer charges that, in breach of Article 151c of the International Sporting Code, it

Vodafone McLaren Mercedes has been invited to appear before an extraordinary meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Paris on Wednesday, 29 April, 2009, to answer charges that, in breach of Article 151c of the International Sporting Code, it
- - on 29 March, 2009, told the stewards of the Australian Grand Prix that no instructions were given to Hamilton in Car No. 1 to allow Trulli in Car no. 9 to pass when both cars were behind the safety car, knowing this statement to be untrue;
- procured its driver Hamilton the current World Champion, to support and confirm this untrue statement to the stewards;
- although knowing that as a direct result of its untrue statement to the stewards, another driver and a rival team had been unfairly penalised, made no attempt to rectify the situation either by contacting the FIA or otherwise;
- on 2 April, 2009, at a second hearing before the stewards of the Australian Grand Prix, (meeting in Malaysia) made no attempt to correct the untrue statement of 29 March but, on the contrary, continued to maintain that the statement was true, despite being allowed to listen to a recording of the team instructing Hamilton to let Trulli past and despite being given more than one opportunity to correct its false statement;
- on 2 April, 2009, at the second stewards' hearing, procured its driver Hamilton to continue to assert the truth of the false statement given to the stewards on 29 March, while knowing that what he was saying to the stewards was not true.
And the McLaren team issued the following statement confirming its full co-operation as well as announcing that McLaren and Dave Ryan have parted ways.
McLaren acknowledges receipt of an invitation to appear at an FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting in Paris on April 29, received this afternoon.
We undertake to co-operate fully with all WMSC processes, and welcome the opportunity to work with the FIA in the best interests of Formula 1.
This afternoon McLaren and its former sporting director, Dave Ryan, have formally parted company. As a result, he is no longer an employee of any of the constituent companies of the McLaren Group.

The latest on the so called 'lie-gate' is that Ron Dennis may have been involved and that Hamilton is considering leaving the team!
Keep in mind though that at this stage all sorts of rumours are flying around!
'Lie-gate' rolls on, Hamilton to Brawn?

Oh how convenient Mr Hamilton and Dad .... taking the moral high ground at a time when the McLaren isn't really quick.
Didn't you stick by McLaren amid all that spying episode, why didn't you leave then ? or was it just at the time you had a chance to win the title and now you don't ?
Lewis you lied, there is no excuse for that. You are 24 years old and a free person. You cannot simply blame someone else for lying. You could have stood for your values and said no, this is not what happened. Perhaps you are doing a Mosely ... oh they told me so and so and I beleived them .....
And what did Trulli do to you ? He is one of the nicest and most honest drivers out there and you quickly forgot that a Toyota handed you the championship last year.
And lets see how this is spun to make McLaren look as the bad guys and Lewis as the innocent driver (both are to blame in my view)
And to those who blamed Alonso for the events in Hungary, this episode surely vindicates him for all what happened in that terrible year at McLaren.

Yes Lewis should have told the truth from the start but I don't believe he would be the only driver in current or in the past that would lie.JayVee wrote:Oh how convenient Mr Hamilton and Dad .... taking the moral high ground at a time when the McLaren isn't really quick.

To us the viewing/paying public it is a sport that we love and support but I
think that to the teams it is first and foremost a multi million dollar industry and money is the prime concern. Sponsors etc who want to see value for their dollar are more important than ticket sales etc. Except of course to Bernie who can sell of the television rights around the world.
As they say "any publicity is good publicity".
Holy crap on a cracker!

Apropros of nothing, and in no reply to any particular post, Lewis lied.
Simply that, he lied.
Yet plastered all over the BBC website are banners of Lewis saying "I am not a liar".
Would someone point out to Lewis, if you say something which is not the truth, you are a liar. Regardless of orders, threats, cajoling, if you say something which is a lie, YOU are a liar.

Hambone is, imho, far less important to Brawn than most people think.
