Another fascinating GP, and not least down to weather implications once again.

The pecking order in pure package potential seems unchanged from Bahrain, and only the various excitements provided by weather and technical collapse have secured a fairly open situation regarding both championships.

We still have REDBULL a length in front of MCLAREN and FERRARI with MERCEDES following closely. RENAULT and FORCE INDIA being amazingly close to the leading 4 just ahead of WILLIAMS and TORO ROSSO. The FIA, basically Max Mosley, most certainly did a super job re. the technical regulations in order to achieve closer racing! Ok, there will certainly be one or two Bahrains this year but that has always been the case and by my perception this is one of the hottest seasons of all times...

LEWIS is my DOTD because of his relentless trying, but JENSON did once more exactly what I had expected, the smoothness in person.

NICO has not surprised me, with the right car he would have been fighting for victories since 2 years. MICHAEL has arguably the strongest ever team mate which in combination to a slight rustiness and underperforming package has led to the current situation. However I would still be extremely surprised if he doesnt match up with NICO soon.

FERNANDO is the slightly dominant driver at FERRARI and has fulfilled expectations nicely so far. FELIPE is still suffering in changing conditions and will show more strongly in dry weather, some of his best tracks are coming.

SEBASTIAN is now a real No.1 at REDBULL and its great for MARK to be able to push him and the team.

ROBERT confirmed his WDC potential and is doing a super job, just like VITALI who some "experts" claimed to be in F1 for the sponsorship.

Others to mention are RUBENS, ADRIAN and JAIME who get nearly the best out of their respective packages.

Barcelona could be another Bahrain with the REDBULLS flying up front and the big 4 dominating points positions. If it doesnt rain....

This had to be one of the better races F1's had in China since first arriving there(rain notwithstanding.........). There were a few boneheaded moves on-track and on pitlane, but everyone pretty much kept it on the island, rain or no rain, so there were a couple of candidates for driver of the race..........

This go-round, my selection for Driver of the Race...............Jenson Button.

Why? It was a flawless run for him Sunday, from start to finish. He was smooth all race, didn't put a wheel wrong and didn't flog the tires like everyone else seemed to(only had to make 2 stops as opposed to what, at least 3-4 for the others....). Other than his somewhat boneheaded attempt to stack the field up on that one safety car period, it was his race; so long as he kept it on the island, no one had anything for him.

My DOTD has to be Lewis, he may have made the wrong pit call, called it way too late, had the debarcle with Sebastian but look where he ended up relative to Seb! He made 13+ overtakes and the first one on Schumacher was a classic! :D

By contrast Jenson only had to make one overtake all race!

Last season there were 60 overtakes in China and this year there was 81! So last years race actually deserves another look. It too must have been a cracker, though I don't remember it as such...

Apparently 60 of the overtakes in this race were caught and shown on TV which must also be a record for an F1 broadcast.

A list of all the overtakes and a statistical analysis of overtaking for the past three decades can be found here:
