Methinks if we set out to save the planet we should pack that idiot along with a number of other candidates into a space shuttle and send them to the moon. At least they won't feel the pollution there and can happily spend their valuable time trying to talk the Martians into using tofu instead of meat...

FIA slams 'ban motorsport' article
''The faster the car, the faster it destroys the Earth''
06/06/07 10:24
F1's governing body has struck back at a journalist who thinks Formula One should be banned.
British newspaper The Herald's James Porteous said this week that motorsport is 'dangerous' because of its contribution to global warming.
"A couple of degrees more will trigger catastrophe," he wrote, also dismissing the FIA's new push for more environmentally-friendly rules in the future as "general waffle" and "greenwash".
Porteous wrote: "The faster the car, the faster it destroys the Earth - simple. Winning races and saving the planet are not compatible."
The FIA's Communications Manager Mark Culter reacted by saying he was "appalled and dismayed at the naivety" of the writer.
"Did he call any F1 teams or speak to anyone from the FIA before arriving at his uneducated conclusions?" he said rhetorically.
"F1 has always been at the cutting edge of technology and will continue to be with energy-efficient systems such as regenerative braking and biofuels. In this way, F1 will act as a catalyst to speed up the development and use of eco-technology on our roads."

Not sure if that is true. After all F1 cars burn fossil fuel, very close to what we use in our cars.rah wrote:AFAIK F1 is carbon neutral. Not sure to what extent though.

Nah dude. Carbon neutral means they offset their emmisions with another projetc.
This is where I heard it. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/56953
NA motor sport still emit CO2, however I beleive it is more efficient and emits less than fossil fuel based fuels.

Ok, Lewis may win the WDC in 07, but Sato will beat him in 08.

The Mountain is a savage Mistress.
Scolel Te is a carbon sequestration project. FIA administration supports it. But as you said that does not mean the cars do not generate greenhouse gases. What the FIA does is some sort of a balancing act, or confession if you likerah wrote:Nah dude. Carbon neutral means they offset their emmisions with another projetc.
