de la Rosa to race in Brazil

Post by Ed » Sat Oct 14, 2006 12:27 am

Despite the poor result from Pedro de la Rosa at the Japanese Grand Prix (he finished 11th), the team decided to keep him in the race seat for the final race of the season. There was speculation that the team would give Lewis Hamilton a chance to race in Brazil but it seems that the team decided against that.

In the McLaren's Brazilian Grand Prix race preview Pedro de la Rosa says:
After the disappointing race we had in Suzuka, I am looking forward to getting back on track and working with the team to finish the year on a high. The test in Jerez this week has been positive, with a lot of the focus on tyres with Michelin and as a result, we feel confident we will be able to get more out of them at Interlagos.
The race will be Kimi Raikkonen's last for McLaren and he said:
This will be my final race with Team McLaren Mercedes; I am of course sad to be leaving the team. We have had some great times together and it would be fantastic to go out with a win. It is going to be tough, but we are all pushing hard to try and make it happen.
Martin Whitmarsh, CEO of Team McLaren Mercedes said:
This race marks a definite end of an era for us as a racing organisation with the departure of Kimi. Ron spoke for the team in Monza when he said how much we have enjoyed working with Kimi since the start of the 2002 season and we wish him all the best.

To honor him for the last time before replacing him? :?

According to a number of Euro sources, Gary P has left the team.

Not surprised at all!!

I think Gary Paffett was kidding himself to think somehow he would be taking over the McLaren drive with Ron Dennis so fully committed to Lewis Hamilton, not to mention that PDLR has become the incumbent and has done very well all things considered behind the wheel.

:o
Christoforo

Agree. Paffett seems to have jumped to conclusions. Then again there may be things at hand we don't know about.

All the signs look so good for Lewis now :D I've been counting chickens for weeks and feeling very guilty for doing so :? However I now know exactly how many chickens there are, where they are and who's going to eat them! :P The only down side is that bird flu might cross the channel any day now and blow my farm out of the water. However I am extremely optimistic in the meantime. 8)

Lewis is gonna be in F1 and up against the very best team mate there is. He will have nothing to loose in his first season but I wouldn't like the pressure of a second if he hasn't become superhuman or at least competitive.

The guy Kubrica most fears is LH...........these young bucks simply don't give a toss about Old Alonso, Kimi, Massa, Webber et al.
It was a long time ago, I was 19, the reigning Champ was 23, I can distinctly remember thinking, "he is OLD"
