Jun.8 (GMM) A crew of repair workers set to work on the crumbling Circuit Gilles Villeneuve surface following the qualifying hour on Saturday.
Formula one drivers expressed concern after qualifying, when the dark-coloured repaired asphalt areas - particularly at the hairpin but also elsewhere - began to break up.Facing the prospect of a troublesome 70-lap race on Sunday, FIA representatives led by Charlie Whiting inspected the offending areas on Saturday afternoon.Shortly afterwards, repair trucks arrived at turn 10 and began asphalting over the crumbled sections of track.Local race official Francois Dumontier told The Gazette newspaper that the situation is "under control"."We will correct the problem and everything will be rectified for (Sunday's) races," he added.Weather forecasts for Sunday predict 30C temperatures and an 80 per cent likelihood of afternoon thunderstorms."Let's hope they put a lot of fuel in the safety car," Australian driver Mark Webber, who slid and crashed on the marbles on an in-lap on Saturday, joked.
