Apr.4 (GMM) FERRARI

The red cars, after their February test here, appear to be the class of Bahrain. Felipe Massa sought to cast off his Malaysian demons by setting the quickest lap by some margin.

-

WILLIAMS-TOYOTA

Nico Rosberg's best time, set in the morning, was bettered only by the two Ferraris on Friday, and Kazuki Nakajima was also fairly quick, indicating that the British team has recovered from its Malaysian slump. "The surface here suits our car better," Rosberg confirmed.

-

MCLAREN-MERCEDES

Lewis Hamilton, who like teammate Heikki Kovalainen was outpaced by the Ferraris on Friday, ended his day with a mistake and a heavy shunt against the barriers at turn 7. It got worse for the Briton when he failed to immediately visit the medical centre for a check-up, but the stewards decided against penalising him.

-

BMW-SAUBER

A straightforward day for F1's third force, with Robert Kubica happier with his car than teammate Nick Heidfeld, who seemed a long way off the pace.

-

RED BULL-RENAULT

Seventh quickest overall for David Coulthard, and just fourteenth best for Mark Webber.

-

TORO ROSSO-FERRARI

He is 29 and a multiple champion of other series, but Friday was Sebastien Bourdais' first taste of Sakhir, and he was ninth quickest overall. Teammate Sebastian Vettel was downcast as he bettered only the Force Indias and Super Aguris. "We were too slow. Honestly, I am not sure which way to go to improve," he said.

-

RENAULT

Renault seems buried in the midfield in Bahrain, and Nelson Piquet on Friday was ahead of his teammate Fernando Alonso. "We were not especially quick," the Spaniard lamented.

-

TOYOTA

One of two teams that tested at Sakhir in February. Jarno Trulli was the quicker of the Toyota pair on Friday, with his best time set in the morning session.

-

HONDA

Twelfth and sixteenth quickest for Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello respectively. "We are hoping to break into the top ten qualifiers this weekend," Button said.

-

FORCE INDIA-FERRARI

Adrian Sutil wasn't too annoyed after Alonso tapped him into a spin at the end of the afternoon session. He was close to Giancarlo Fisichella's pace on Friday, but the pair were better only than the trailing Super Aguris.

-

SUPER AGURI-HONDA

Situation normal for the struggling Japanese team -- a long way off the pace, and Takuma Sato making a better fist than Anthony Davidson of the severely restricted mileage.
