08 December: Formula 1 Testing - Jerez - Day 2

Second day of testing at Jerez and Ferrari's Test driver Luca Badoer set the fastest time of the day in a restricted V10 powered car ahead of Jenson Button in a V8 powered car. Renault's Test driver Franck Montagny was third fastest in a restricted V10 powered car.

9 teams and 17 drivers took part in the test today.

Once again the 2 Renault test drivers covered the most number of laps. Kovalainen with 110 and Montagny with 105.

Badoer's best time was a 1:18.237 running a restricted V10 engine while Button in second set a 1:19.094 running a V8 engine. For reference, the fastest time in 2005 at Jerez was a 1:15.561 by Pedro de la Rosa in the McLaren MP4/20

Renault and Red Bull Racing ran restricted V10 engines, Ferrari and MF1 Racing had 1 car with a restricted V10 and another car with a V8. All other teams ran V8 engines.

The session today was interrupted by numerous incidents. Luca Badoer once again went off the track but this time it was a heavy shunt and the team decided to halt their testing on both cars until the incident is investigated.
McLaren test driver Alex Wurz had an accident while the second McLaren test driver Gary Paffett suffered an engine failure.
MF1 Racing driver Tiago Monteiro driving the Interim V8 car had several problems during the day.

BMW Sauber driver Jacques Villeneuve had his first taste of the Interim V8 powered car. He set the 16th fastest time.
Belgian driver Jeffery van Hooydonk made his test debut for the MF1 Racing team.

Weather conditions were sunny and clear with air temperature reaching 20 degrees while track temperatures reached 27 degrees.

Testing continues tomorrow.
