ROUND 7 QLD RACEWAY -- 22-24 JULY.

Round 7 takes the V8s to Qld raceway. (known as the paperclip for its layout)
The circuit
3.12 kms long. 12 metres wide.
flat.
6 right handers, 2 left handers. A layout of the track can be viewed on the official site provided by ED., right next to the forum.
Note. It lists 6 corners, the drivers say 8.
The circuit has often been criticised for its layout,as being boring. Yet it always seems to produce exciting racing. My personal dislike is the gravel trap at the end of pit straight. The entry to turn 1 is marked by a significant bump, and every race sees a couple of drivers lock up under braking, usually from diving down the inside. The result=gravel trap. It is too deep, once in, there you stay = the dreaded safety car.
The event
Basically a mini-enduro. 1 race of 280 kms.
1 pitstop for fuel.
1 pitstop for tyres.
Heat can be a significant factor. So can fatigue.
Tyre wear is critical, particularly the right rear, and team strategy is all important
Neil Crompton of Ch10, and a very experienced V8 driver descibes the race as "buying a ticket to the last 30 laps".
I.E The driver/team that stays on the lead lap, looks after the car, and stays out of trouble gets to "race" for the flag, those who don't come home in survival mode.
Stats
Current lap record: G.Tander 1:11:0033 set in 2000
Ambrose has won pole for the last 4 years
Ambrose won last year
Ingall won in 2003
Prior to this it was a 2 driver per car event.
The unexpected.
Sudden Qld downpours can play havoc, at any time.
Picks.
hard to go past Stone Bros on their home track.
Outsider
Morris goes well here on this, his home track. But he does seem to get involved in "incidents"
