Engine of the year 2005

The BMW 5 litre V10 (M5, M6) was voted the International Engine of the Year for 2005.
It is certainly a convincing overall victory for this M5- and M6-powering heart: 344 points, some 129 more than the second-placed engine (which you?ll note was another BMW, the twin-turbo diesel). Last year?s winner, the Toyota Prius Hybrid, ran smoothly and silently into a close-run third place.
So what are the M?s winning features? Why has the judging panel deemed this the finest engine in production today? Power is unquestionably a factor because a so-engined M5 can accelerate from zero to 100km/h (62mph) in 4.7 seconds, but the way in which it delivers such pace has also won votes ? refinement, a willingness to rev to 8,250rpm, and accessible torque (some 450Nm of the peak torque is available at 3,500rpm).
There are other categories and BMW have won in a number of those!!
The V10 with a 90 degree V is very much like an F1 engine and it is no wonder that BMW have objected strongly to the V8 2.4 format.

According to Red Book, the M5 7 speed

V10 is a cheap 226K
And if you can't afford that, the M3 is almost 100K cheaper at 137K

That's only in money terms. Really the M5 is worth a lot more than that.

A car for $226000
You are kidding me!!
If you had 226000 wouldn't it be wiser to invest most of it and get 4 Hyundai Getz's (1 to own and 3 to spare

)
