It was a fairly typical session with drivers feeling their way on a green track. Lewis Hamilton had a gearbox problem that sidelined him for a while however repairs were completed and he returned to the track. Fernando lost the rear of his Aston Martin exiting the last turn. At least he had that embarrassing moment out of the way.
This session featured two rookie drivers who stood in for the regular pilots.
The most impressive had to be Alex Dunne who, in Lando Norris' McLaren, set the fourth fastest time in the session, fractionally behind championship leader Oscar Piastri. He seemed to do everything right. The runs commenced with aero testing before he had his chances on the soft compound. He completed his run time, after taking the chequered flag, bringing with the car into the pits.
Dino Beganovic had a disrupted session with, at on time, a floor change performed which hindered his time in the Leclerc Ferrari.

This was a fairly easy session for most teams who spent their time dialing in their cars for qualifying and the race.
Liam Lawson had a mysterious problem that caused his Racing Bull to pull to the right and seemed to take weight off the right front wheel. It looked like a suspension failure on the left rear but I could be wrong. He limped his car back to the pits and repairs were performed. He returned to the track and set a time next best to his team mate Isack Hadjar.
Lando Norris made up for missing FP1 and set the fastest time of the session.

FP3 and the track temperatures were up on Saturday. Tyre adhesion was low as a result.
Many drivers left the track and ran into the gravel. A few even spun their cars, most notably Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar as they exited the final turn. Neither sustained major damage as they spun and ended pointing in the right direction on the pit straight. Kimi Antonelli almost joined the group but managed to catch the rear and completed his lap.

Q1 and things still aren't betting better for Yuki Tsunoda. He complained at having no front grip but it could have been the track temperature. Max Verstappen also came in complaining of no grip in slow, medium and high speed turns. The team must have performed some tweeks as Max was again back on the pace however Yuki failed to make it through. Nico Hulkenberg was slowest while Carlos Sainz has a session he would rather forget. He started the session complaining that the car was pulling to the right under brakes. Watching his last lap, the car seemed so unstable constantly needing steering corrections throughout the lap.
Q2 and Fernando Alonso, Alex Albon and Isack Hadjar were all unexpected eliminations. Gabriel Bortoletto, Liam Lawson and Pierre Gasly replaced them in Q3.
Q3 and Lando Norris set a great benchmark on his first run. This proved pivotal in the session overall performances.
Final runs commenced with Pierre Gasly towards the front of the queue. Mid way through the final turn, he dipped his left rear onto the gravel and looped his Alpine. This brought out the double waved yellows which then caused Oscar Piastri to lift and not have access to his DRS due to the incident and abort his final run. The yellows also forced Max Verstappen, who was on his final run and about to enter the incident area, to lift and also abort his final lap.
