At the conclusion of day 1, the likely candidates look to be Ferrari and McLaren with both teams topping the practice sessions. Pleasant surprise is the speed of the RB duo of Tsunoda and Ricciardo. Both have landed with a setup that seems to work around this street circuit.
The Red Bulls and the Mercedes will have their work cut out for them to find the lost time on this layout.
Williams, particularly Alex Albon, have been quietly going about their business. Franco Colapinto was on the pace in FP1 but seemed to fall away a little in FP2.

It had to be the most unusual red flag of the season when a lizard strolled around the entry to the final turn. It was captured and safely returned to the water outside the track precinct.

Q1 and Daniel Ricciardo, after looking so good in all the practice sessions, again failed to extract the true potential of his RB.
Q2 and it was Sergio Perez's turn to fall at the final hurdle. Both Williams were also eliminated however 11 and 12 on the grid still leaves them with a fair chance of finishing in the points.
First run in Q3 and, after Nico Hulkenberg and Oscar Piastri completed their laps, Carlos Sainz lost the rear of his Ferrari as he commenced his run. His crash brought out the red flags and all other drivers times were rendered null and void.
Following repairs to the barriers, drivers took to the track for their only chance to post the pole winning time. Lando Norris rose to the challenge ahead of Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, George Russell and Oscar Piastri. With 4 tenths of a second covering the top 5, a great race should be on the cards. To rub salt into the wounds, Charles Leclerc had his time deleted and will start in 9th just ahead of his team mate Carlos Sainz.

Well, what is there to say? The McLaren train is rolling on.
Lando Norris qualified on pole, led into the first corner and just built his lead.
Max Verstappen stuck as close as he could but, in reality, was just there to finish second.
Oscar Piastri ran long on his set of mediums but still finished the race on hards. On this strategy, he had the performance left in the tyres to initially chase down Lewis Hamilton and then Grorge Russell.
Talking on strategies, what was RB thinking starting Daniel Ricciardo on softs and, following his first stop, expecting him to make the didtance on mediums? Even hards would have struggled to be competitive considering the amount of laps left following his initial pit stop.
