On a bright, blustery day Friday the World Rally Championship returned to the Middle East for the 1st time in over 30 years and there were a couple of surprises, most notably the leader after Leg 1....a tight battle btwn. reigning champion Sebastien Loeb and Daniel Sordo ended w/Sordo eeking out a 1.1-sec. lead after 8 stages Friday............

The second leg of the Rally Jordan saw a three-way scrum between Citroen pilot Daniel Sordo and Ford pilots Jari-Matti Latvala and MIkko Hirvonen, with 10 seconds separating the trio..........on the flip side, a rare 2-car accident during Stage 11 took out points leader Sebastien Loeb while Loeb was leading.

For the second consecutive day the lead changed during the 2008 Rally Jordan as a right-rear suspension failure forced Jari-Matti Latvala to the side for repairs, allowing Ford works driver Mikko Hirvonen to cruise to his first win of the 2008 WRC campaign; the win vaulted the Finn to the points lead(joining fellow Finn Kimi Raikkonen, who leads the F1 points following his win in Spain today)..................

Day 1, Loeb leads Rally Sardinia............

"A near-faultless run" were the first words Citroen works pilot Sebastien Loeb said to his service crew after the 6th of 6 stages today in the first leg of the 2008 Rally Sardinia, a day which saw both him and fellow Citroen driver Dani Sordo hold 1-2 in lockstep pretty much all day. Rounding out the top-5 were Subaru's Petter Solberg, the Blue Oval's(a/k/a Ford) Mikko Hirvonen and Solberg's Subaru teammate, Chris Atkinson.

Loeb notches 40th career WRC win in Sardinia

Holding off a hard-charging Mikko Hirvonen, Citroen pilot Sebastien Loeb held on to win the Rally Sardinia, marking the 40th time in WRC competition that the Frenchman has won. Rounding out the podium w/Loeb and Hirvonen was Hirvonen's fellow Ford pilot, Jari-Matti Latvala in 3rd.

Through most of Friday's Leg 1 of the Acropolis Rally, Ford works pilots Jari-Matti Latvala and Mikko Hirvonen led over Citroen's Sebastien Loeb.....unfortunately, as is the case at times on gravel roads, an errant rock got both works Blue Oval pilots, sending them to the back half of the top-10 and letting Frenchman Loeb slide into 1st......
