Prodrive has announced its withdrawl from the 2008 season.
There are serious doubts about it starting in 2009.
The company cites the ongoing objections from Williams to customer cars, and conjecture about the new Concorde Agreement.

Hmmm I thought it was good having them join but SF must be scared of the competition.

Hand picked by Mad Max, over organisations with better infrastructure then in place.
Now Out!
How embarrasing!

as much of a big baby as frank williams is he brings a valid point
you should construct your own stuff to be a legit entity
prodrive was trying to slip in under the radar...problem for them is they could not do it quick enough after super aguri and they got scrutinized and bounced, we'll see if they can get their sh*t straight for 2009...that will tell the story if they are serious and really looking to enter as their own entity

A team hand picked by the FIA as the next legitimate entry to the ranks of F1,................"scrutinized and bounced"............?

scrutinized and bounced after frank squeaked his wheel's
squeaky wheel's always get the grease
they had no choice at that point because of the exposure frank created

It is interesting to watch how this unfolds. Prodrive were selected out of a number of bidders to become the 12th team. If David Richards is no longer interested in having his own team, will he be able to sell his license to another interested party ?

Im with Sir Frank on this one.
The thing that attracts me to F1 more than anything else is the competition between cars as well as drivers, the fact that each team builds its own car is fundamental to the uniqueness of F1, and customer cars are the beginning of a slippery slope (which you might argue F1 has been heading down for a while anyway)

Yup.
I would still prefer to see a grid of as many of the best formula race cars as possible tho. Even if 6-10 are customer cars, in a field of 30, given that each team will have engineers and aero guys who believe THEY are the best

It beats the hell out of having 2-3 drivers genuinely challenging for a win, 2nd and 3rd, then comes the rest.IMHO.
Cheers, Red

I'm sitting on the jury on th equestion of should customer cars should be allowed to race or not.
As for numbers of drivers competing I think that they have got it at the right amount now. The optimum level for me being between 20 and 26 drivers. Any more than that and some drivers will be too far under the radar for most people including sponsors to want to follow them.
