Sebastien Bourdais to join Toro Rosso in 2008

The Scuderia Toro Rosso team announced today that Frenchman Sebastien Bourdais will drive for the team in the 2008 season.
A statement by the team read:
Scuderia Toro Rosso announces that Sebastien Bourdais will drive for the team in the 2008 Formula 1 season.
The 28 year old Frenchman will be free to join the team after the final round of this year's Champ Car Series on 2 December. Currently leading the series with the Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing team, Bourdais has been champion for the past three years. Prior to building his career in the United States, he was crowned Formula 3000 Champion in 2002. "It has been a long time coming, but here we are!" said Bourdais. "I would like to thank everyone at Red Bull for believing in me and giving me this long-awaited opportunity to race in Formula 1. I must also thank Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing for letting me pursue my dream and allowing me to test for Scuderia Toro Rosso a few times this year."

Does anyone think this is a good move for Bourdais ?
Why would someone go from a winning team to a backmarker ?
Oh he may be trying to emulate Alonso's path
(but he is too old for that!!)

It doesn't really make any sense!
That's better.
However the logic behind it is that Toro Rosso is the Red Bull junior team and they have the outstanding Adrian Newey designing their cars and it's only a matter of time before they become a force in F1. Seabass and Mark Webber would be quite a formidable team in a competitive car don't you think?

I think Bourdais going to Toro Rosso
is a good thing for a couple of reasons.........
1--there's nothing in NA open-wheel racing that SeaBass hasn't won yet(other than the Indianapolis 500) and with three(and judging by his Road America performance Sunday, likely four) Vanderbilt Cups to his credit, the next step for him is F1
2--I suspect one reason Bourdais's headed to Toro Rosso is to bring himself a new challenge and to possibly try to disprove the oft-heard argument in F1 circles that NA open-wheel driver can't succeed in Formula 1......maybe SeaBass can turn that perception around; one never knows
3--For what its worth, JayVee.........I believe SeaBass is trying to emulate Alonso; after all, Alonso once drove for the then-backmarker team known as Minardi and if he could parlay that into success further up the grid, then I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work for Bourdais

I agree with Snowy and mlittle. Bourdais needs a new and greater challenge as there's not much more left to do for him. As for Toro Rosso, I think he could use that as a step to the regular RedBull team, partnering Webber once DC retires.
