Forum Maintenance

Hi everyone,

We will be carrying out major forum maintenance over the next couple of days. The forum may become unavailable for some time but we will either be posting a message on the main page or on the main NewsOnF1.com page to provide an update on the situation. Once the maintenance is completed, we are confident that we will have much less downtime than what has been experienced over the last month or two.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Tim

Thanks Tim :D :D :D :D :yourock:

Better to do it now while there is less activity. Only a few of us still hanging around.

Thank everyone

Currently I am :bang: :bang: from this maintenance job that I feel like :bcomp: :bcomp:

But soon I will be happy again I am sure.

Just a note to those who use PM's regularly, if you can refrain from using PM's until this job is finished, that would be appreciated.

Thanks again

It took quicker than I thought!

Ok, after a number of major failures and continuous intermittent faults particularly on the database side we decided that the best way forward is to find a more reliable host for these forums.

We did some extensive research and we believe we found a very good host provider that offers reliability and speed. It is all at a cost of course (now we are paying nearly 3.5 times as much as we used to) but hey, you guys are worth it.

We are confident that the downtimes and the slow times are now something of the past. This host provider is good enough to offer real time uptime statistics on their servers and they haven't dropped below 99.95% on most of their servers in the last 3 years.

NewsOnF1 Forums are now on a platform that will be able to handle 3 to 4 times the current number of users without problems so lets get there

Please lets us know how the response times are in your part of the world. Also as we have moved the database across, please let us know if you think there are any posts missing.

We have set up a temporary redirect to the new host provider as the DNS take time to propogate.

Here's to an exciting start to 2007  :party5: :party11: :party10:

We believe the DNS propogation has completed. Everyone should now be able to see the forum on the new host.

Thanks for your patience during this time and please provide us with feedback on the response of the forum pages from your part of the world.

Sorry but it seems DNS hasn't fully propogated yet and so you may still see the forum redirect to the temporary host name instead of newsonf1.net.

This also means that the forum s/w could get a bit confused and take you to the home page. If this happens, close all open browsers, clear your internet cache and cookies and try again.

This shouldn't last for more than 24 hours.

That's ok Tim... I think we all know how frustrating our own computers can be sometimes.. let alone dealing with the stuff you guys need to deal with. :bcomp: :bcomp: :bcomp: :bcomp: :conf3:

So I guess not much news is good news then :D

The DNS propogation should be complete by now. There shouldn't be any more login issues (cookies/cache, etc...) but more importantly is the response of the forum. We've spent an extensive time over the past week monitoring and it appears that the response is very good with no downtime reported so far.
Has that been your experience too ?

A minor issue was reported and that is the email notifications. They may have been reset following the move. If you want email notifications, you either enable them from your profile or individually when you post.

Thanks for that Tim. I had noticed that I was not getting the email notification on PMs but it is not really a problem.

I haven't noticed any down time and it seems to be running beautifully.. no slow times or anything. :yourock:

Thanks jacfan,

We hope that with this new host the forum will continue to grow without worrying about database resource limits, timeouts, double posts, etc ...

Regarding the PM email notification, check your profile and ensure it says Yes next to 'Notify on new Private Message'
