Well I like it. But then I am a greeny.

I will have to take back everything I have said. I have since looked up the web site and apparently this paint work is what they will be using... no advertising. I for one applaud them for trying to make a difference to global warming and other issues that go with trying to help our planet rather than destroy it .

I like it....Bit different...What I want to know is, what is Honda going to do that is different from the rest of the field (other than paint their cars) to fix the problem of climate change?

First my opinion is that it is a good idea (and we should be able to tell which one is the Super Aguri )

Second I am surprised by the cynical comments on this issue. May I ask all those who are 'shocked' by this, what is the right way to promote the environment ? How can big businesses get involved ? Please have something with substance and not just silly jokes.

What humans are doing to the environment is a serious issue and should be tackled. I have many friends living in different countries and all of them have experienced very unexpected weather patterns this year. I think Earth is giving us a hint

Firstly, and no offence intended JayVee, I do not think this is the right forum for such a discussion. Secondly, F1 would have to be one of the most highly visible non-environmently friendly industries in the World, closely followed by the Car Manufacturing Industry...hence my cynicism.

As Julian points out it is the very fact that F1 motorsport and motor cars in general are so detrimental to the environment, their carbon foot print is so huge that; though raising people's awareness of environmental issues is laudable their efforts are a bit pathetic. They could have been doing far more than they were and far more than they are to pressure radicle change in motorsport, instead they have consistently protected their interests and their pursuit of global domination.

When it comes to protecting the environment and nature we have lost quite a few battles. Right now the best we can do is to try not to lose the war. Global warming is almost impossible to reverse anymore but we can (and should) make amends to try to stop it from getting worse. I support all such efforts. However I also see JM's point: Honda changed the paint job (and I admit it looks nice) yet they happen to be the very same people who have done more F1-testing than anyone else last year.

Applauding Honda at this moment in time is a bit like applauding either Japan or Norway for being the more environmentally friendly whale hunting nation.

Well IMHO doing absolutely nothing is worse than at least trying something. Every journey begins with a single step. F1 racing would be doing minor damage compared to all the privately run cars, bikes etc.

Somehow I think that no matter what the merits of this discussion are that Ed will be relagating this to another thread.
Sorry Ed. I know I should not have replied but before I could help it I found myself standing on my soapbox.

I feel we are discussing things relevant to the RA107. If indeed the needs of the environment are high on Hondas agenda then discussing the merits of their new colour scheme is not just relevant but indeed essential and if all the cars had such colour schemes or said intent to raise debate perhaps we could have a seperate thread for this discussion. It seems to me that this is as good a place as any until everyone in F1 has joined the bandwagon.
