Mmm. As to this debate. Well, to start off, let me mention that Flavio is a git. He almost seems to relish taking apart the Renault 'second' driver. Fisi just hasn't got what he's after, which is another Alonso, so even though I voted that Fisi would leave at the end of the season, it's possible he could go before, if Flavio keeps on at him. He's almost 'Ron Dennision' in his approach to the second position, don't you think? And despite DC's great record at McClaren, DC didn't really chill out till he left. I wonder why that was? Dennis, of course. The man is a personal disaster area - he either loves you or hates you. Seems to me like Flav should give more support and less public criticism, he obviously is not a motivator, otherwise he wouldn't be so down on Fisi all the time.
As for Fisi, I don't rate him. It's no good having flashes of brilliance, he's gone sooner or later, unless he can turn his season around.
in your humble opinion

Oh Mayo, why are you so cheap? Shame on you!

If you don't rate Fisi and I don't blame you but what do you expect Flavio to say ?
Fisi goes on and on about how confident he is to win because he has a better engine than Alonso yet he finished 8th

and there was no stall, no bungled stop, nothing but a driver who gets easily distracted if anything goes wrong. He didn't make the top 10 in qualifying
By contrast, Alonso had double the fuel in Malaysia, qualified 8th and finished 2nd.
Even though I haven't seen much public critisism from Flavio for Fisichella, I wouldn't blame him for whatever he says. Fisichella is supposed to be the highly underrated driver, a future world champion, well he isn't and if Flavio wants to defend Renault's title next year, he better get someone other than Fisichella to do that. I think Kovalainen has a better chance and that is why I think Fisichella will be dumped before the end of the season.
This may well be a first. I TOTALL AGREE WITH YOU JV.
Fis out, Kov in then they have the spare seat for next year to fill. Wouldn't be a bad idea to give him a few races at the end of the season to get used to a full race weekend in preparation for 2007.
Lots of articles suggesting MW to Renault next year but that I think would depend on what Kimi does.

MW has said that he was wrong to ignore Flavio's advice and go to Williams....and that he will listen to Flavio from then on.
Renault have still not committed to F1 beyond next year saying they will sign a top driver for next year then look at the balance sheet !
Hardly the way to inspire top drivers switching unless they believe they can really stand out in the renault. The thlot pickens

Well look at what happened with Trulli? I can see that sort of thing starting all over again

Well thank you Bundy, a few others make me feel that all I am saying is nonsense

yet what they are saying is
I am not convinced that either Michael or Kimi will drive for Renault next year.

Yes it can and I don't necessarily disagree with the way Flavio handled it. Wasn't it at the French GP that Trulli gave away 3rd place to Barrichello on the final corner ?
If Fisichella keeps making struggling and makes a couple of silly mistakes then surely we'll have the Trulli situation all over again

I usually agree with a lot of JayVee's comments, but switching to Kovalainen using the the logic you suggest makes no sense.
We saw what Fernando Alonso could do in a underpowered/underfinanced team in race conditions. We saw the same with Mark Webber. Kovalainen coming into a top team is a huge risk for the team, because it is one thing to be fast in practice and another thing to win races! Just ask Raikkonen.
Now before you think I'm totally cracked, look at the careers of Kimi Raikkonen, Jenson Button, David Coulthard, Jan Magnussen, or Martin Brundle. All of these guys were supposed to do what Fernando Alonso has done. All came straight into a top team. I don't doubt that in about 2 years time, we will be talking about Kovalainen, Nico Rosberg, Nelson A. Piquet, Lewis Hamilton, and Frank Montagny like we do Alonso, Schumacher, and Fisico, but Briatore and Renault are going to keep Fisico [because he can win and knows the car] and add either Mark Webber or Raikkonen if they can get him. At best, Kovalainen is the third option, and Briatore is not scared to put a rookie in the hot seat, but he like winning too.
Think about what I'm saying before you comment.
