Please, please, please do not let me be misunderstood. Those last few laps were as good a drive by Alonso as by anyone I have seen in the wet, except Senna, in recent times.
I just thought I would present a sideline of interest.
By the by, I thought it was an excellent drive by a Flu-ridden Hamilton, after such a big shunt, pity a couple of calls a lap early or late or whatever kept him out of the points, some of his passing was a joy to watch.
A bloody good race all round, I reckon

Just saw that on YouTube, pity there is no translation and pity Channel 10 doesn't show us those bits.

I too enjoyed Hamilton's passes particularly the one on Fisichella however lets not forget that all those he passed were in inferior cars and he would be expected to pass them. IMHO he made as many or more spectacular errors than he made spectacular moves.

Great race regardless.

Just remembered a comment Jim made about rain being predicted, even though rain did arrive as predicted, I don't think it would have been wise for any of the top drivers or teams to put on wet tyres before it rained. They would have looked so foolish had any driver done so and rain fell next to the track not on it!!.

Besides this prediction science I don't like. I prefer to see how the driver and team reacts to rain, and I would like to see them drive on dry tyres for a lap or so in the wet.

Rain was predicted three times....it rained on the track twice........... 8)

You would think with all their gazillions they coud buy themselves a superduper weather radar that could tell them exactly how much rain was falling and where and when. Instead Christian Horner rocks back in his seat and looks up at the sky.

Even the V8 boys were smart enough to log on the the BOM rain radar down at winton.

Actually they do have a mobile weather radar installed on a hilltop close to the circuits. But then predicting rain is not an exact science. They were trying to predict rainfall in terms of minutes whereas the super-duper Weather Channel, using satellites, stations, simulations and whatnot sometimes fails miserably to foresee anything. So, I am ok with the F1 weather team making occasional mistakes. Besides it's more fun :)

JayVee wrote:Last year it was the Michelin wets being 'superior' to the Bridgestone wets hence what Alonso did in Hungary wasn't really that amazing, it was the Michelins.

This year they run the same Bridgestone wets but no, the same tyre doesn't really mean the same compound mould or something fancy hence again Alonso wasn't amazing he was just lucky to get a good compound!!!

Get the drift .....

People, how do you know that Alonso didn't have 'vibrations'. As Jim said, he would have also had 'vibrations' but he is just that good at managing that.

That is what separates the really good drivers from the good drivers ? Simple really.

Oh, and drivers will always look for excuses to justify their relative poor performance (Alonso included BTW).

And I am being a bit defensive
He said his tyres were great during the post race interview if I remember correctly.

Everyone instantly assumed it was Felipe having a go at sweet FA after the race. In fact it was the big-headed sweet FA having a go at Felipe. Sweet FA even apologised for the incident, but you're all having a go at Felipe, too busy typing the work pouting to ascertain the facts.

Felipe had no trouble keeping sweet FA at bay in the earlier wet period, but nobody talks about this, when it was dry he easily built a comfortable lead over sweet FA, but nobody talks about this. Then when the final rain comes and sweet FA has an obvious car advantage suddenly Felipe is a loser.

Frankly I think its the other way around. Sweet FA had a clear performance advantage once they were on inters in that final period, and if he wasnt so busy showing us how clever he is (which he is) by driving on different parts on the track than everybody else when it is wet, he shouldve got by him sooner. I think Felipe heroically and aggressively kept him behind him far longer than he should have been able to, when a lot of other drivers would've just rolled over.

Made me laugh! I still voted for Alonso as driver of the day.

Some excellent points made re: wet driving. And I am as fond of little Felipe as I am of Fernando the cute; but the points some chaps were making about how superior he, Felipe, was in the dry seem, to me, to be more about the Ferarri than about Felipe. Even Fernando in the post race said he didn't have the pace in the dry. In other words, he couldn't get close enough to contest the race.

So. When the wet comes and he drives away with the race, how can it be Felipe's tyres' fault. I'm not saying, pace Julian I believe it was who told the story of his experience with identical wets and un-identical performances on the road, that Felipe's tyres couldn't have been bad somehow, but this is F1, the pinnacle of motorsport. Can't we expect the best from the materials supplied, ESPECIALLY when said materials are IDENTICAL to the teams? So. Yes. I suppose in theory it could have been his tyres that betrayed him, but on the circuit it sure looked like something else.

Now. I guess nobody knows about Lewis's inability to stand up after his shunt in qualifying? Was that because he had the flu? If so, I am one amazed puppy at his brilliance in the car!

Just one more passing observation. Remember when they changed the point values to keep Michael from winning the WDC by the seventh race? Now you can see what's wrong with their fiddling: Fernando and Kimi have 3 wins each. Felipe and Lewis have two. But Lewis is leading the WDC and Kimi is in fourth place.

We just saw in Germany what winning means to drivers. I would say it means the same thing to fans. Pity the rules makers think a second place is 80% of a Win! A more reasonable percentage would be 50%!
