What a race!

Pity that we couldn't cover it but mlittle was here and did a great job. A big thank you to mlittle

Fernando Alonso won the race in changing conditions. He has certainly proven once again that he is one of the best drivers out there in those conditions. Felipe Massa had the race in the bag and built up a good enough gap to Alonso but the rain came down towards the end and he just couldn't keep up. Was Alonso too aggressive in his attempts to overtake Massa towards the end ?
Well done to Mark Webber for finishing in 3rd although he gave a scare to all his supporters at the final turn and Wurz who also did a great job nearly snatched 3rd place.
Coulthard finishing 5th after starting from 20th was great to see.

The 2 BMW Saubers finishing 6th and 7th, well at least they finished in the points given the drama early on while Kovalainen whilst again finishing ahead of Fisichella took a gamble that lost him a number of positions.

Lewis Hamilton failed to finish on the podium or in the points for the first time this season. He had a great start but then drama. After aquaplaning he and the team did a smart move by staying in the car and he was literally lifted out of the gravel trap back into the race. Then a not so smart move after being allowed to unlap himself he and the team opted for dry tyres which put him way behind. In the end he nearly scored some points and entertained us with some pretty good overtaking.

Kimi Raikkonen's retirement ? This is his second this season, one starts to wonder about his luck ?

The championship fight is back on with Alonso just 2 points behind Hamilton as we await the FIA's decision on Thursday.

Your thoughts and the driver of the day ?

My vote is for DC...

What was it? a 15 place jump if I am not mistaken :D

I loved that move Alonso made on Massa.....that is racing...dont get into a huff...it was great stuff (thats my poetry for the year)...Alonso seemed to be quite festive about it......but then again the guy that comes out in front will always be slightly more jovial than he who did not

I think ralphie wanted to throw his helmet at Heidfeld as he drove by

Did that car park in the opening laps look more expensive than the one in Brazil??  Tractors get in the way

Someone buy me a Webber cap :cheer: 8)

Was that Liuzzi who hit the Manitou? Or was it Speed. I was laughing very hard during that 6 car gathering I couldn't see exactly...

Heidfeld is a jealous pig. while kubica got a great start after passing nick, he pressed pedal and hit kubica's back. it caused that both of them were out of race and started chasing everybody til they got 6 and 7th places.

the funny thing was when kubica was trying to communicate with his team - if he has to go pit and change tires or not. nobody did respond. so he didnt go and at the last lap heidfeld has overtaken him because of better, changed tires.

I'm not 100% sure which of them it was...but it was quite an amusing bit of parking......sure takes a lot of skill to parallel park next to one of 'em crane/tractor jobs

A very interesting, entertaining race.
Dotd, Webbo/DC, I can't split them.
Nick is going to be getting fewer Christmas cards this year.
Alonso upset the entire Japanese nation, that was ??????.
Worth staying up for, for once.......then 3 hours sleep and onto the MOTOGP  Well worth it tho'

I liked also the bit where Hamilton overtook the convoy under the SC and Fisi immediately complained on radio, and the Renault guy calmly said "'tis okay mate!"

A very enjoyable race and what made it even more enjoyable was Alonso winning and showing his mastery in the wet.

At the start Massa nearly lost it, Alonso looked so much in control and Button just went off. Then at the end of the race when it started raining again he was right up behind Massa and overtook him then built an 8 second gap at the end. Once again he proved not only he is the best out there on wets but was in a class of his own, no theortical stuff, actual on track F1 racing.

Hamilton got many chances to recover but didn't take advantage. Interesting that he got back into the race with the help of a crane

Massa was too upset, sure Alonso muscled his way through but Massa was the one who hit him and Alonso was already ahead!!

Raikkonen, well I don't know but I think he is tough on cars. McLarens have 100% finish record so far (just when Raikkonen leaves them!)

Webber great race I was so worried that something broke at the last corner and somehow he managed to hold Wurz! Coulthard did well too

Who else, oh yeah Winkelhock!!! Leading a race on debut (did Hamilton manage that  )

Alonso is back on track, you just enjoy him now (if you can!!). His podium celebrations were just so amazing. Even Ron Dennis was all smiles!!

Oh and I cannot stand James Allen anymore. Why not call it the Formula Hamilton Show

There was a discussion about that in an F1 related program... They say if the engine is still running and it'll take less time and effort to bring the car back to the track without endangering the race then the crane shall do so. Same goes for marshals pushing it back onto the track.

It was fun to see him lead the race even if only for one corner :) Kinda reminds me of Fisichellas win in Brazil.

How about Renault's gamble with Kovalainen?

I think they should have played it safe... Trying too hard to catch the BMWs resulted in Renault falling further behind.
