JASON Richards :4614

Rick Kelly was next, he and the next eight under 1:09:00
Team Dodo have done unbelievably well, Jason's car has just been rebuilt after that massive rollover in QLD. Steve Richards struggled into 15th, with Jason Bright just behind him
Seven tenths of a second seperate the first 19 cars, and the rest are close behind. I have a feeling there is going to be some bent metal.
Jason is driving with a rib protector and still has a very painful neck.

The two races in the round have been run and won, and the quiet Kiwis, aka The Stone Bros, would be feeling " a bit chuffed" right now. So would a bloke who has never stood on the Oran Park Podium in ten years of V8 Supercar racing. I will be doing a full review at a later time, these are my immediate post race thoughts.
Skaife had a shocker, and found someone else to blame.
His team mate Tod Kelly also had a bad day.
Murphy surprised himself, and everyone else with two fine thirds.
Lowndes was lucky and unlucky.
So was Ambrose
Rusty Ingall didn't know whether to laugh or cry, so he did both.
The O.P. curbs did their usual amount of damage to a number of runners.
A full report shortly....oh and the T.V coverage gets worse at every meeting
Race One
S Richards
Ingall
Murphy
Ambrose
R kelly
J Richards
Race two
Ingall
Ambrose
Murphy
Lowndes
Tander
Black Flags and drive thru penalties played a significant role.
More to come in the review.

No idea on the plans. It is being done by the sam people who currently own the track. Evidently it was always going to happen. Something to do with the zoning. After the upgrades of the current owners I am sure it will be a good track, and not something like Eastern Creek.julian mayo wrote:Yes, next to the Mount it is my favourite, a shame to see it go. Ok, Lewis may win the WDC in 07, but Sato will beat him in 08.

Review
I am going to keep this short, it is hard work typing with one hand.
The Stone bros were the act of the day.
Race one:
From the flag Ambrose was untouchable til he copped a drive thru penalty, then he powered back to fourth at the flag. The only one who looked at all threatenening was Lowndes, with a Stone Bros engine, and he then copped a drive thru.
Skaife crept on the grid, then bogged down and was away with the mid-field, ,,end of his day..he copped a drive thru for a jump start as well. Race 2 saw him in the sand, and out of contention.
Richards, Ingall fought hard to the flag, and finished in that order, with Murphy 3rd, and Rick Kelly deposed to fifth by Ambrose on the last corner, last lap. Jason Richards did well to finish 6th in the rebuilt car.
Race two
Skaife was into the sand on lap 1, and forced a safety car. The restart saw Rusty, Ambrose, Richo and Murphy in a good scrap for the lead, with Lowndes closing fast, then Ambrose pulled away. He pitted soon after, 1 commentator saying he had a deflating tyre. After the pit stops Ambrose had the lead with Rusty, who pitted for tyres much later, closing fast. The Team Boss was heard to say there were no team orders, just keep it clean. I think Rusty stopped listening after "orders", cos he was down the inside on turn 3 and shoving Ambrose aside. They both got away with it, and Rusty simply drove away on fresher rubber. The rest of the pack were in survive mode, Richards and Lowndes were going backwards and Murphy was safe in third.
At the flag it was .
Ingall, Ambrose, Murphy, Lowndes, Tander, R Kelly, J. Bright
Murphy showed good car speed, and the car seemed kind to its rubber, remember, Bathurst is not far off.

Yes it is. Both teams tended data which showed they were not speeding in pit lane. The volunteer official with the radar gun at the Entry to pit lane said they were ....penalty enforced.Southernman wrote:I did watch the first race and thought Murphy did well to get third from where he qualified. I couldn't believe that two drivers got drive through penalties for speeding in Pit lane. It's going to be sad to see the end of this track.
Murphy is coming good in time for his favourite track ! It is hellishly hard to switch engines( which require relocation of most of the ancilliaries) and get the balance of the car right with the limited testing available to the teams. such heavy cars, with limited lock etc, require best possible balance to stay on the black stuff, much less conserve tyres etc.
