The rules this year only allow one set of tyres for Qualifying and the race. Last year's tyres only lasted a third of a race, maybe half a race tops.

Bridgestone and Michelin have to make new harder compounds for the tyres to last Q and Race. So far Michelin got it right thanks to the many teams they supply unlike the near exclusive relationship between Ferrari and Bridgestone. Sometime exclusivity hurts
