Didn't he race for nearly half a season this year ? That should have proved to himself and to McLaren how good of a racer he is.
If he does very well in testing then he makes a very good testing driver.
gkaytaz wrote:Now, that McL has signed a 10 mil Euro worth sponsorship deal with Santander Bank (spanish) kinda makes people talk about a possible all-spanish lineup for McL in 2007.
I think most of the Spanish money is due to Alonso. McLaren would draw more money if they hire a non Spanish second driver.
More than offset by the merchandice they would sell at the Spanish GP alone

If anything is to change it will have to be this month. I doubt anything major can change from December until after the first flyaway races.
Even then I doubt very much that any change will occur at the top 5 or 6 teams (apart from the 2nd McLaren seat of course).

Sam Michael's position is in question but you'd expect major change at Williams after a miserable season.

Those lower than Williams are all new teams and any change in those teams won't be much of a surprise!
If a team has a number of Superlicenced drivers contracted to it, can they not plonk a driver in as they see fit, up to the startof the first race?
Whilst there are a few strange restrictions in the regulations, yes any team can keep changing their drivers as they see fit even after the season starts but that doesn't really work. Red Bull tried that last year with Liuzzi and Klien and it didn't work. Teams fighting for points wouldn't change too many times, even those who are regularly at the back don't do it too often.

True. Apart from the time he spent scraping the walls of Indy Ralf did not do much for the team. Neither did Trulli. However that does not seem to have disturbed anyone cuz they both signed for 3 years apiece. What gives? Maybe it was not the drivers per se.
I am still reeling over the fact that Toyota re-signed both. When is the last time you saw either of them near ten tenths?
Only Trulli re-signed. When both Trulli and Ralf signed for Toyota, Trulli was on a 2 year deal while Ralf was on a 3 year. Trulli re-signed for 3 years (until end of 2009) while Ralf's contract ends at the end of next season and has not re-signed (yet!)

What are you worried about ? Hamilton will race in F1, it is just a matter of time. My personal view is that he should test first and race later in the season (if McLaren aren't fighting for the titles) or next season.

He raced in 8 races. Now that the season is over he says that he will have to continue his top form in testing to prove what he's worth.

They will need a good name next to Alonso. Hamilton just won't bring in that much cash. If Button however...

Okay here's some juicy gossip:
Klien spotted talking to Honda and Spyker people in Brazil. A testing seat perhaps but he wants to keep his foot in.

Nissan will be joining the F1 scene in 2008. Alain Prost's name pops up frequently in conjunction with this rumor.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Brawn is already in talk with McLaren and Williams.

More to come...

Most pieces of the puzzle have fitted in place and testing starts next month but those sessions are pretty much meaningless apart from those drivers who are lucky enough to be released from their contracts and get to test with their new teams!

So I guess we can have an off topic thread in this forum for the time being but just one OK
Ed, I have three bits of goss which I was going to post...........(rifles thru 156cm stack of papers on desk, pistol whips children for getting them out of order, machine guns dawg with impotant paper in mouth) which i created this thread for, then Liz came over n....... but it was to do with Stryker, Doorknobs, broken contracts, Modesty Blaise.......
None about the 2nd McLaren driver :!:

What about Christian Klien ?

Doornbos to race in 2007 ?

Renault livery to be strikingly similar to Stryker :!: :!:

We are being bombarded by junk email today, up around 200%

Now that was :offtopic:
Berger is a tad keen on the $us10 mill Doornbos can bring to the team, rather than having to tip some of his own money in......getting Doornbos would be at the expense of Speed, but the RedBull bosses are rather keen on having an American in the team.......it could get ugly behind the scenes 8)

IIRC, autoracing1.com has mentioned that on their rumors page. According to them, Scott Speed has said that he will be back for 2007 based on him saying that he has a "watertight contract" to drive for Scuderia Toro Rosso(STR) in 2007. Now, based on what the ar1.com rumors page said, when Red Bull bought the then-Minardi F1 team, it was to be collaborative btwn. Red Bull magnate Dietrich Mateschitz and Gerhard Berger, as Mateschitz bought about a 50% stake in the Berger Group at the time. From what I've read(there and elsewhere), Red Bull wants Speed to remain at STR for 2007(like Julian said in the above post, Red Bull wants an American with the team); Berger, who's looking for additional sponsorship for STR, wants to bring Robert Doornbos in(and the $10 million USD that Doornbos' would bring). What will happen......who knows?

My guess....unless Berger really needs the $10 million that Doornbos would bring, STR's lineup will stay at Liuzzi and Speed for 2007.

Berger is having problems with sponsorship for the team. 8)
