The Swiss Miss takes the win at the Beach..........

Post by mlittle » Mon Apr 21, 2008 9:45 am

While she didn't lead the bulk of the laps in this afternoon's Atlantic Championship race at Long Beach, Newman-Wachs Racing driver Simona de Silvestro led the ones that counted, winning by just over a second over Genoa Racing's Alan Sciuto. Starting on the front-row, the Thun, Switzerland native held station behind polesitter Jonathan Bomarito, taking advantage of a stuck gearbox on Bomarito's car to grab the lead and it was lights out on the field, holding off late challenges from both Sciuto; rounding out the podium was Walker Racing's Kevin Lacroix.......here are the top-10 from a sunny Long Beach........

1st} Simona de Silvestro, Newman-Wachs Racing............38 laps

Hinchcliffe takes provisional pole at Laguna Seca........

Post by mlittle » Sat May 17, 2008 11:06 am

Under very warm, sunny conditions in the Monterey area, it was FCR-Atlantic's "Mayor of Hinchtown", a/k/a James Hinchcliffe, who grabbed the provisional pole for Sunday's Atlantic Championship race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca w/a blistering time of 1:17.541 sec.........following the Canadian were Walker Racing's Kevin Lacroix, Brooks Associates' Markus Niemala in 2nd and 3rd; final qualifying is set for Saturday afternoon.

Near-perfect day for Hinchcliffe in Laguna Seca......

Post by mlittle » Mon May 19, 2008 12:28 pm

For "the Mayor of Hinchtown", it was a near-perfect day......he won the provisional pole Friday, the overall pole following qualifying on Saturday.....then ran a flawless race Sunday from the drop of the lights through to the checkers, capturing his first win since 2006. The only thing FCR-Atlantic driver James Hinchcliffe didn't do was set fast lap of the race, which was okay by him......he did, after all, win the race.

Top-10 from the Monterey hills..........................
1st} James Hinchcliffe, FCR-Atlantic.........................34 laps
2nd} Carl Skerlong, Pacific Coast Mtrspts.................-2.391 sec
3rd} Junior Strous, Condor Mtrspts..........................-6.671 sec
4th} Markus Niemala, Brooks Assoc. Racing.............-13.027 sec
5th} Dominick Muermans, Condor Mtrspts................-18.404 sec
6th} Jonathan Summerton, Newman-Wachs..............-19.185 sec
7th} David Garza, Pacific Coast Mtrspts....................-21.053 sec
8th} Andreas Wirth, Brooks Assoc. Racing................-21.946 sec
9th} Daniel Morad, EuroInternational........................-24.449 sec
10th} Simona de Silvestro, Newman-Wachs..............-25.195 sec

Rainy weather sometimes benefits a driver......case in point, Condor Motorsports' Junior Strous, who notched his first career Atlantic Championship pole Saturday courtesy of the wet, rainy track conditions at Mt. Tremblant(the result of which being that FR's provisional times were used to set the grid, with the exception of P2, which went to Newman-Wachs' Jonathan Summerton who was fastest in Saturday qualifying).

Edmonton Combined Practice top-5......................
1} Carl Skerlong, Pacific Coast Mtrspts., 1:06.963 sec
2} Jonathan Bomarito, Mathiasen Mtrspts., 1:07.255 sec

4} Markus Niemala, Brooks Assoc. Racing, 1:07.365 sec
5} Junior Strous, Condor Mtrspts., 1:07.592 sec

Interesting note..........this weekend the rising stars of the Atlantic Championship are sharing the track with the IndyCar Series; in the first Atlantic session, PCM's Skerlong set the fastest time of the session at 66.963 sec........in the IndyCar Series' first practice session, Team Penske's Helio Castroneves set a time in the 63 second range. Funny thing is, the IndyCar Series' Dallara/Honda racecars have 650hp, the Atlantic Swift/Cosworth racecars have 300hp............
