Re: The 2021 French Grand Prix Thread
This weekend, we return to the Paul Ricard circuit, current home of the French Grand Prix.
This circuit doesn't generally lend itself to close and exciting racing so I am hoping to be pleasantly surprised.
It has been the home to the French Grand Prix since 2018 with Mercedes winning both events at this circuit.
What to expect?
Red Bull and their Honda power unit have come on strong this year. With similarly powered AlphaTauri, these two teams have really excelled.
Mercedes don't seem to have gotten their heads around this year's car and it has been more good luck than good management that they are still in the chase.
McLaren and Ferrari have both come on leaps and bounds.
Aston Martin have been the quiet achievers while Alpine have shown some speed.
The bottom end of the grid hasn't changed too much other than Haas now closer to last and behind Williams while Alfa Romeo continue to improve.

Re: The 2021 French Grand Prix Thread
The painted lines used to slow the cars are really abrasive as can be vouched for by some drivers. The tyres become shredded down to and sometimes through the fiber belts. Just ask Sebastian Vettel who also managed to find the wall thus limiting his FP1 time on the track.
And the kerbs which are used for track limits. They are really causing some damage to the cars.

Re: The 2021 French Grand Prix Thread
Mercedes announced that they had swapped their drivers chassis. This is supposed to be a normal occurrence in a season but I've not heard of it before.
The track limit kerbs are costing teams a lot of cash. Watch this space to see if changes are made however, after listening to the on air communications between the FIA and team principals, I suggest that it may not occur.

Re: The 2021 French Grand Prix Thread
Qualifying
Yuki Tsuonoda brought out red flags in Q1 by spinning into the barriers on his first qualifying lap and will have to start at the rear of the grid.
Mick Schumacher ended Q1 with 20 odd seconds left by finishing in the barriers and also bringing out the red flags. This ruined many other driver's final runs for the session.
Lance Stroll had his Q1 fast lap cancelled due to exceeding track limits and, due to Mick Schumacher's incident, will also start on the last row.
