Re: The 2019 Russian GP Thead

This weekend, we return to Sochi, home of many Mercedes victories. In fact, no other team has won here in this modern era. This also looks like the penultimate time we will be visiting this venue as a new circuit in St. Petersburg is being constructed and development of the site is in planning stages. Russia is contracted to the F1 calendar until 2025.

So, do I expect this to change? I don't think so. Even with the new life injected into this latter part of the season, I do not foresee Ferrari toppling the might of the German marque. In short, Mercedes home ahead of Ferrari with Red Bull almost there.

Now, to the midfield. McLaren and Renault seem to be slowly establishing themselves just above Racing Point, Alfa Romeo and Toro Rosso so they should fill the majority of the remaining points paying positions. Haas seem to have lost their way a little and Williams have been playing catch up for the season.
That said, any of the midfielders are capable of snatching points in the lower end of the top 10.

A fairly quiet session with only Ricciardo backing his Renault into the tyre barrier in the last moments of the session.
Damage seemed limited to the rear wing only.
Valtteri Bottas also had a rear wing problem with the DRS plane failing in the top left hand pivoting point. This necessitated a review of the design on both Mercedes between sessions.
