MotoGP veteran Jeremy McWilliams has sustained multiple injuries during a nasty fall from the Ilmor X3, while testing at Jerez on Thursday afternoon.

McWilliams suffered fractures to his left femur and right collarbone plus 'serious injuries' to the fingers of his left hand. He was quickly taken to Jerez Hospital where he is expected to undergo surgery by Monday at the latest....

Various quotes from some of the riders after the jerez test...

Marco Melandri:
I'm not so happy yet as I have not found a good connection between throttle, engine and rear wheel, It's funny because even with less power from the 800cc I still have wheel spin. We tried some things on suspension and of course tested with Bridgestone tyres. In the end I had a good feeling getting the bike to turn better, it was good in the fast corners but we have to work on the bike to get it to turn better in the slow to mid-range speed corners.
Alex Barros:
We found a good balance for the front suspension settings, while we can still improve the rear. The Bridgestone tyres were amazing, especially the qualifying one with which I clocked my best time. I am very happy to have this quality of material at my disposal.
Shinya Nakano:
Today I spent time working with various gearbox ratio changes to find the best base to work from. When we found that we moved on to suspension work and tyre testing. We had a little front-end chatter early on but fixed that with suspension settings. Overall I must say this test has been very positive. I know we can improve and I have to improve myself
Valentino Rossi:
It was a good day and helpful for us to have time to do so many laps. We continued working with two different chassis, trying to find the best way forward and check the differences between them.....We also got time to do some important tyre work with Michelin and it seems they have some good new things which are working well with our bike....
Dani Pedrosa:
We had a good day's testing and I'm pleased with how things went today, We tried many chassis and suspension adjustments on the bike, finding the combinations that worked best with the Michelin tyres we tested. My lap-times were quite good and I went faster than in the race at the beginning of the season, but you can't read too much into this because November is good time for going fast at Jerez.

Rossi is back with with a new helmet design and new stickers on his 800cc Yamaha.
I have some new stickers on my bike and a new helmet; they're a reference to the legend of King Arthur and 'Excalibur!' I want to show everyone that we are ready to fight back and that we're ready to do our very best throughout these winter tests.

After moving from Honda to Yamaha at the beginning of '06, Camel have decided to end its affiliation with the team and depart from the MotoGP scene....

A recent statement from the Yamaha team:
Following Camel's recent announcement, Yamaha Factory Racing would like to express its thanks to Camel and Japan Tobacco International for their partnership and support over the 2006 MotoGP season.
Our thanks go out to all those involved in the project; they have formed an important part of our team over the past year.
It has been a great honour for Yamaha to work with such an experienced sponsor and Camel's enthusiasm throughout the season has been greatly appreciated by the entire Yamaha Factory Racing Team and the Yamaha Motor Group.

I just heard an interesting tidbit/rumour....
Apparently all the teams are currently struggling with the fuel economy...The fast times we're seeing in testing are due to short numbers of laps between pit stops and no one is yet ready to complete race distance....
With the exception of ilmor! maybe they're having the last laugh while running 3-4 secs "off pace"....

:?

New MotoGP world champion Nicky Hayden has been listed against the #1 plate, breaking the recent tradition set by Valentino Rossi of a rider retaining a trademark number. He will thus give up the #69 that he carried to success at the last round in 2005. Team-mate Dani Pedrosa will carry #26.

Rossi remains unchanged with the #46, while team-mate Colin Edwards will ride with the #5 on the front of his machine. Makoto Tamada retains the #6 despite his switch from Konica Minolta Honda to Tech 3 Yamaha, while Carlos Checa takes his preferred #7 from the French squad to Honda LCR. Completing the triangle, Shinya Nakano will transfer his familiar #56 to the Konica Minolta operation.

Series returnees Alex Barros and Olivier Jacques will campaign their recognisable #4 and #19 plates, while it can be expected that the #99 will adorn McWilliams' Ilmor entry, even though the Irishman was missing from the entry at the time of issue. Sylvain Guintoli will use the #50 in his debut season with Tech 3, while Casey Stoner carried the #27 to the Ducati factory operation.
