2009 MotoGP of the Czech Republic (Rossi Wins)

Post by <T-K> » Thu Aug 13, 2009 2:57 am

This weekend brings along round 11 of the MotoGP calendar, with many dramatic changes.

The biggest news of the weekend is undoubtedly Casey Stoner(3rd place in the championship) has withdrawn from the next three rounds to try and finally get a grip on the fatigue problems he has suffered at the last five races. Stoner's place at Ducati Marlboro will be taken by rookie Mika Kallio, who gets his big chance to impress on full factory machinery, while WSBK star Michel Fabrizio steps into Kallio's shoes at the satellite Pramac team.

This move has put Stoner out of the championship race, leaving it to become a straight fight between Fiat Yamaha team-mates Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo.

It could be said that the GP of the Czech Republic was a bitter-sweet one for the Yamaha team. Jorge Lorenzo apologised to his team and Yamaha after crashing out of the race lead in Sunday's Czech Republic Grand Prix at Brno, handing the win to Rossi.

Lorenzo came into round eleven having lost points to Rossi at the last five races, allowing the Italian to construct a healthy 25 point lead over his team-mate at the top of the standings. Rossi's title lead over Lorenzo has now doubled to 50 points.

Dani Pedrosa, who briefly led at turn one of the race, was helpless to prevent the Fiat Yamahas of Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo riding into the distance but did go on to set the third fastest lap - half a second slower than Lorenzo and Rossi, but 0.7sec quicker than next best Toni Elias.

Elias gave the Gresini Honda outfit its first podium since 2007 with third place in Sunday's Czech Republic Grand Prix - just days after being told that there would be no place for him at the team next season.
