Audi beats Peugeot........LeMans post-script

Post by mlittle » Mon Jun 18, 2007 2:58 am

One of the hallmarks of a great team is the ability to persevere, to keep on winning even when it seems everything just can't go your way.....such as with Audi Sport in the just-ended 24 Hours of LeMans...........
--by hour 2, one Audi R10, #3 driven by Mike Rockenfeller crashes into the armco barriers at Tertre Rouge
--btwn. hours 15-16, the #2 Audi R10, driven by Dindo Capello, suffers a left-rear tire failure(a/k/a the tire came off the car..... :x ) and sends him into the tirewalls at Indianapolis
--meanwhile, the #1 Audi of Frank Biela, Marco Werner and Emanuele Pirro held off both Peugeot 908's to win overall and LMP-1 class honors.......

For Peugeot, though, it was a great return to LeMans; after having a few problems at the beginning of the race, Peugeot continued to push the entire race, especially after Capello's off. 2nd in class is not too shabby(the #7 Peugeot 908 driven by Nicolas Minassian, Jacques Villeneuve and Marc Gene retired with less than 100 minutes remaining......  )...........

Here are the top-3 from each class...................
LMP-1.............................
1st} E. Pirro, M. Werner, F. Biela, #1 Audi R10 TDI, 369 laps(1st overall)
2nd} S. Bourdais, S. Sarrazin, P. Lamy, #8 Peugeot 908, -10 laps(2nd overall)
3rd} R. Dumas, C. Bouillon, E. Collard, #16 Pescarolo/Judd, -12 laps(3rd overall)

LMP-2............................
1st} B. Binnie, A. Timpany, Ch. Buncombe, #31 Lola B05-40/AER, 316 laps(18th overall)
2nd} A. Fernandez, H. Kurosawa, R. Kerr, #33 Zytek 07S-2, -15 laps(28th overall)
(under the rules of the Automobile Club L'Ouest, only cars that cross the start/finish after the 24 hour mark are listed in the results)

GT-1.............................
1st} D. Brabham, D. Turner, R. Rydell, #009 Aston Martin DBR9, 342 laps(5th overall)
2nd} R. Fellows, J. O'Connell, J. Magnussen, #63 Corvette C-6R, -1 lap(6th overall)
3rd} C. Bouchut, F. Gollin, C. Elgaard, #008 Aston Martin DBR9, -2 laps(7th overall)
