I reckon we'll see so many engine changes this weekend.

Hey, why don't all the teams agree to change engines then nothing changes and the FIA can get stuffed Laughing Laughing Laughing

The situation with engines:

All those drivers that didn't cross the finish line are entitled to a fresh engine without incurring a penalty. Those are:

- Ide
- Villeneuve
- Fisichella
- Albers

Any other driver that changes their engine for Malaysia will be penalised 10 places on the grid for each change.

If there was an Emoticon holding up a "Respect" sign, there would be a million of them at the bottom of this email . . . just close your eyes and imagine it.

Ed, are you out there? ?

I have a regulation question for the ye Professor of F1.

If DC makes the final session of qualifying . . . finishes 1st, but has to start P11 - does he have to race with the fuel he heads out into S3 with? or does he get to refuel to his hearts content because he is outside the top 10??

Anthony Davidson sets the fastest time in the 2nd Friday practice ahead of Alexander Wurz and Fernando Alonso. Massa, Raikkonen, Fisichella, M Schumacher and Button make the top 8 - Full results

Montoya stopped in the pit lane on his way onto the track but the problem wasn't major and he was able to go back out. He later spun but managed to recover.
Anthony Davidson spun the car and stalled. He rejoined later in the session.

Thumbs Up Cheers Jay Vee thinks the teams should unite to stuff FIA. Right, Jay Vee, just like they did last year at Indy? Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes I agree with you that the longer Max lives the more evidence he appears to supply to my friends who are genetic determinists Cool Still, everyone appears to believe that Formula One racing that focused on simple racing would somehow fail to provide enough thrills and chills. As someone, I think it was Julien, but am probably wrong, pointed out to me re: qualifying, F1 is in a do or die battle with NASCAR and whatever the Aussies call V-8 racing. I take that to mean that most people go to races (or watch them on tv) as much to see the fellows banging one another's fenders (and making obscene gestures at high speeds) as to cheer for a well executed overtaking or a beautifully coordinated pit stop (like Fernando's last race!) which determines a racing outcome.

And anyway, while I'm on this particular topic, which, again if I recall correctly, is of such vital concern that Ed even had a special thread on it, I mean passing (as we say in the U.S.) or overtaking (as the rest of the world has it): I would pay good money just to watch nothing other than Kimi Raikkonen's on-board camera each week!

How come he consistently makes what seems to be in excess of 14 or 15 passes a week in a sport where there is so much solemn theorizing and noise making about the construction of the cars making parades inevitable? Seems to me that if we just cloned Kimi and had four or five of him in every race, there'd be all the thrilling overtaking you could take!

Alas, though, in Malaysia I don't expect to see as much. I'm picking the kimster to take the pole; the only overtaking he'll be doing will be in the process of putting the field a lap down. Not that that won't be fun to watch, but seeing someone get lapped just isn't that exciting is it

Can someone explain why Massa has done something like 40 laps on Friday while Michael only did something like 20 ? Has Ferrari just remembered Massa needs some time in the car ?

I know he has a new engine but this engine is to be used in Australia too!

Here is my explanation:

Ross Brawn: That Massa kid is pretty fast Michael Exclamation You know he isn't like Barrichello, we don't let him touch the car in the winter yet he did better than you in qualifying (you know he had more fuel don't you)

(Michael shakes his head)

Ross Brawn: So what are we going to do ? We can't keep playing with the brakes otherwise Jean's son would start getting suspicious.

Michael: Perhaps we can play a bit with his engine ?

Ross Brawn: What a brilliant idea Michael, you always come up with those great ideas. We can say that when he went off too much sand got into his engine and we need to replace it.

Michael: What a brilliant idea

Ross Brawn: That way we'll make sure he is at least 10 places behind you. And if he gets close, we'll stuff up his second pit stop. Make sure you hide that tyre on your way out! We don't want him to do what Raikkonen did to Montoya on you OK!

Michael: Also get him to do a lot of laps on Friday, tell him he's got a fresh engine, that should also stuff him up for Australia

Ross Brawn: You are a genious Michael
