Did Ron Dennis make a mistake??

Post by Kapel » Mon Sep 19, 2005 4:49 pm

Just wondering if Ron Dennis made a mistake in hiring Montoya a bit early???
My point here is,we have seen how DC with an average car has been consistent in bringing the car in points!! :D

DC with the Mclaren machinery this year would have helped the Finn,by consistently finishing, sometimes 1-2,a few wins but most importantly would not have fell from a bike!!! not tangled with the backmarker n all..

Montoya no doubt is a very good driver, but his over aggression or lack of any has cost Kimi this year's title & mayb Mclaren the constructor!!!

Yes Kapel, Alcohol is the best thing

And yes DC is very consistent, he will always finish 6th or 7th whatever the car :D

DC is known to help Finnish driver  finishing 2nd behind them.
DC has always done well if the car is competitive..

JayVee,he's finishing 7th or 8th in Red bull,he would have faired much better in a Mclaren this year..No offence to Montoya, but in a way Montoya(bad luck sometimes) is irractic & was not comfortable in the early part of the season & not to forget the bike accident

And this is why Kimi lost the championship ??????? Oh there was no superb Alonso, no reliable Renault, no single race mercedes engines :D and Kimi was too gentle on his tyres  . Oh those were minor compared to Montoya's lack of comfort and his bike accident   :D

I see, you must be thinking with your Michael hat on :D

No mistake here from Ron Dennis.

He hired the fastest driver he could get, and DC didnt make the impression to be good enough by last year to finish right behind Kimi let alone push him to the max.

However it was not Juan who lost Kimi the title, that would be even more stupid to state than Michael having lost Eddie the title back in 99.

By the way Fernando gained even less support from his teammate...

I feel that Ron Dennis made the right move at the right time. JPM is exceptionally quick, Kimi is as well. McLaren has had a few unlucky moments throughout the year that were neither of the drivers faults. JPM getting punted off the track in two GP's by backmarkers is just unfortunate. At Spa, he seemed to have settled for second behind his teammate and was doing the right thing by not applying pressure to force Kimi into error and relinquish any chance of the WDC. McLaren will win the constructors however early season reliability will cost them the WDC.

I see where you are going with this one mate, and to a certain extent I theoretically agree. If DC had been in the car he may have scored a few more wins or podiums than JPM and that would mean less points for Alonso. In theory it could be possible, but there are just too many unkowns.
Ok, Lewis may win the WDC in 07, but Sato will beat him in 08.

In formula 1 luck, or fate will always play a hand. Ask Stirling Moss and Jack Brabham. Moss was always faster than Black Jack. Moss never won the title, Jack did. Are we seeing history repeat?

My dear Kapel,

No I don't have The Cute in every post (unless you are referring to my signature   )

Frankly, claiming that Montoya cost Raikkonen the title borders on the ridiculous.
I basically gave you the most obvious reasons to why Raikkonen isn't winning the title:
1. The superb Alonso The Cute (If someone else was driving his car, Kimi may have had a chance)
2. The reliable Renault (If the Renault failed as much as the McLaren then Kimi may have had a chance)
3. The crap Mercedes engine (If the Mercedes engine lasted as long as it is supposed to then Kimi may have had a chance)
4. Kimi's driving style (If Kimi is able to be gentle on his car then he may have had a chance)

Only if this was a very close championship can we then look at the team-mates and see if they could have helped by taking points off the other driver. But it isn't close and Montoya was never a factor just like Fisichella

No Kapel, I am not praising Alonso here nor am I trying to make this a praise Alonso thread, I am simply stating the obvious reasons why Kimi hasn't won the championship this year and Alonso The Cute is certainly the main reason for that and not Montoya and his shoulder injury

If the McLarens run trouble free for the next 3 races then yes but that won't happen. We'll see at least 2 retirements or 10 place penalties and that will allow Renault to stay in front.
