While everyone is enjoying the start of the 2009 Formula 1 season, here are some interesting bits of info you can throw around at your next party............. 8) :lol: :lol: :lol:

~~~McLaren's 24-year-old Lewis Hamilton is Formula One's youngest champion and the 30th driver to win the title since the first championship in 1950. The Briton is also the seventh to win it for McLaren.
~~~Nine Britons have been world champion. Champions Ferrari have won a record 16 constructors' championships and eight of the last 10. Williams have nine and McLaren eight.
~~~Renault's double world champion Fernando Alonso has 21 grand prix wins, more than any other current driver. Ferrari's 2007 champion Kimi Raikkonen has 17 and Brazilian team-mate Felipe Massa 11. Hamilton has nine.
~~~The winner of the Australian Grand Prix has gone on to be champion in eight of the last 11 years and the last three seasons in a row.
~~~No Australian has won his home race to date and Red Bull's Mark Webber will again be the only local driver on Sunday's starting grid.
~~~Switzerland's Sebastien Buemi, in a Toro Rosso, is the only driver making his debut in Melbourne. He can become the 57th driver since 1950 to finish his first race in the points. The last Swiss driver to race in F1 was Jean-Denis Deletraz in 1995. The last to score a point was Marc Surer in 1985.
~~~Brawn GP, replacing departed Honda, are making their debut as a team. Only Alfa Romeo, in the first championship grand prix in 1950, Mercedes in 1954 and Wolf in 1977 have won on their race debut.
~~~March qualified on pole for theirs in South Africa in 1970 and won their second race with Jackie Stewart. Tyrrell also qualified on pole for their debut in Canada the same year, again with Stewart.
~~~Albert Park, Melbourne, street circuit - length 5.303km, race distance 58 laps, total distance covered 307.574km. A temporary parkland circuit, but still better than many permanent ones in Europe. The race starts later than ever, in late afternoon/early evening, to cater for European television audiences after pressure from Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone.
If you're wondering why the engines sound as they do, there is a reason..........they've been rev-limited down from 19k RPM to 18k RPM.(thanks, Speed Channel.........good thing it was Bob Varsha that mentioned it; if Steve Matchett had talked about it, the session would be over time he finished........ :lol: :shock: :shock: :shock: )
