Blame the drivers?

Hmmm, the teams say come in, they race, they pit for fuel, they get no fuel, they get rolled into the garage, they get on the wrong side of their boss, assuming they didn't put it into the wall.

I don't think pointing the finger at the drivers is right at all.

Whoever wrote that can go live in the past where they belong

I can't see anything intersting about it Kapel. Had any driver raced, they would have been most likley black flagged as they were running unsafe tryes.

Safety is paramount in F1, it has been since the death of Senna yet this article asks the drivers to reverse that. The drivers whose life is most at risk. What a joke!

Latest from Paris:- :(

Looks like bad news....

Word has it that matters are falling apart within the FIA World Council meeting in Paris today. The general hearing has already taken place, and the team principals are now coming out one by one - and are refusing to comment - but the word from within the meeting is that bad news is expected.

BAR principal Nick Fry has just come out of the meeting, with Ron Dennis expected to be the next to come out.

Minardi's Paul Stoddart came to Paris, but was refused entry to the World Council meeting.

An FIA press conference with Max Mosley is planned for 3pm local Paris time, while a press conference of the Manufacturers is expected sometime after - at which Stoddart is expected to be part of.

Rumours are that BAR is facing a ban - in which case it is anticipated that BAT and Honda would announce that they would pull out of the championship.

hope this is not true

MICHELIN do what they have to do in repaying the tickets to the US spectators, they did well to avoid risking the life of the drivers principally.

They will fail in blaming the FIA though, the teams who didnt race even under a safely defined speed limit through turn 13 will have to pay a penalty, period. Had they raced with maximum wings and max.speed of 300kph they would have lost 2 sec through turn 13 and gained 1 sec through the infield. They could have beaten the Jordans, they could have fought for 3rd place. The FIA has no blame to take here.

In the interest of the sport it would be contra-productive to take away points or ban for more GP. Hope for a reasonable outcome, e.g.2 million fine plus a 3 race ban condition, in case the situation occurs again in 2005.

I'd be pretty sure that max wing would have made the problem even worse with the added downforce. It just transfers engine power into more downforce/less acceleration which would add even more workload to the tyre and add to the banking effect. The problem was not just speed/lateral loading - it was the longitudinal forces also.

A lot of rumours but nothing confirmed yet.

Max Mosley will be holding a press conference shortly and we'll report on that immediately.

Keep in mind that whatever the outcome, the teams have the right of appeal.

The latest from Paris,

The 7 teams have been found guilty on 2 counts for bringing the sport into disrepute but were found not guilty on the 3 other counts.

Not yet clear which counts they were guilty on!

The penalties will be announced on September 14th! (no this isn't a typo!)

More soon!

The 5 charges were

- failed to ensure that you had a supply of suitable tyres for the race and/or

- wrongly refused to allow your cars to start the race and/or

- wrongly refused to allow your cars to race, subject to a speed restriction in one corner which was safe for such tyres as you had available and/or

- combined with the other teams to make a demonstration damaging to the image of Formula One by pulling into the pits immediately before the start of the race

- failed to notify the stewards of your intention not to race, in breach of Article 131 of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations.
