K-D does have a point about Rossi jumping straight into a Formula 1 car after motorbike, but if there was a guy who would likely be given that opportunity for the first time, I think it would be Rossi.

I was going to mention the saga of the Villeneuves father and son, but Gilles went from racing snowmobiles to Formula Atlantics and CanAm before getting noticed by Enzo Ferrari. He was also an instant winner in everything he raced. Jacques, the son, on the other hand, raced Formula 3 in Europe rather inconsistently, went to Japan where the competition wasn't as intense and drove well enough to be given a prime Atlantic seat on the best team, then graduated to CART even though his teammate Claude Bourbonnais outdrove him and won the championship to which JV came in third. To his credit, JV took CART seriously, one the CART championship [his first championship win in any category], the Indy 500 and the Formula 1 World Championship all in 4 years of moving out of the junior formulae. He now seems to be on a 10 year vacation, but that's another topic.

I can see Ecclestoneand Ferrari engineering a plan in which Rossi comes to Ferrari as a tester for a few years, then suddenly gets named a starter when Michael Schumacher finally retires and races well because he is a racer. They will groom him for success just Jacques Villeneuve. The FIA is going to need that if the rest of the F1 form their own FRL [Formula 1 Racing League].

Jean Todt has been quoted in the Sydney Morning Herald as saying " Alonso is not at the top of the list (when/if Schuey retires) There are plenty of other drivers with talent. Kimi is one I would hire before Alonso" :!: :!: :shock:

I don't have to.

The "Sydney Morning Herald" DID NOT interview Mr. Todt, the "Sydney Morning Herald" reported the same story that everyone else are quoting, where Mr. Todt DID NOT mention any names at all, but when asked specifically about Alonso, answered with a question/statement/observation.

No matter how many times his "intent" is read into that one article, it does not change the fact that he did NOT name any drivers by name.

I believe there are a few mind games being played by the Ferrari boss. Alonso should be on the top of everyones' list because he is the first driver to come up through the ranks and take it to Schumacher since Damon Hill! Todt would be a fool if he did not go after Alonso should Schumacher retire.

Personally I think that Todt were referring to Kimi, however since he did not sat so it is nothing but speculation. Obviously he would never give the name of a driver not currently under contract, as "The" driver that they would be interested in signing, in the event that Michael Schumacher retire.

I think that Fernando Alonso is clearly the driver looking the most as "The next great one" of the drivers currently being touted as such. And I am 100% sure that he will one day race for Ferrari.

In 2007 the F1 championships, under regulation by the FIA will be contested by:

Ferrari
McLaren
Williams
Sauber
Toyota
Red Bull
Midland
Renault

BAR may be thrown out after the hearing tomorrow, so I am not sure of them. And Minardi may have folded, so not sure of them either.

Then there will possibly be 1 or two new teams. The Dubai F1 is supposed to still be alive, and some of the F3000/GP2 teams have a stated object of advancing to F1. So they could possibly be there as well.

No matter what you think, the GPWC will not happen as a seperate series and the more time you make funny remarks, that it will, the more inane will you look when it comes to nothing.

inanity and I are old friends, you back your hunches, and I will back Mine. But please note that I have only ever stated that the manufacturers will not tolerate F1 as it is NOW.
