Williams still haven't sorted their gearbox problems

that was the "seamed" gearbox. They are going to use the "seamless" for thr races

The problem I am finding is whether to take JM seriously or not from post to post . . . interesting that this is the same problem I have with Williams. Top of the timesheets one day, non-existent the next . . . such torture should be banned.

On his appointment the Williams team stated that Nico was bringing a lot of engineering expertise with him, which would be put to maximum use in testing.....

If the emoticons are a clue to Williams performance becuase someone is or or there is internal or perhaps Nico is trying to work out how to make the machine work or Sam is while Mark is ??? or they are all working in the . . . none of it ends up reassuring me.

A bit of twisted logic here. He's a good driver, should adjust quickly, don't worry about him. I bet you'd never say the same if Barrichello was testing the old car and Button testing the new one.

Obviously JayVee,I'm biased for Rubens anyday against any driver in the world. (Sometimes that includes Michael too) N hey,Rubinho is a far far better driver than the little rebel.U love that word dont u?

From a Ferrari and Schumacher fan that is a lot

I've been a Ferrari fan as long as i can remember & yes Michael's too.N i 've always commented on what was unfair doing by Ferrari or Michael during the course of this forum.(like Austrai)

N i will continue to defend them when i feel they people bashing is unjustfied,and when its potrayed that they are the only one who conduct such deeds and other teams dont get criticise(BAR's illegal fuel tank,Mclaren Meb'98) to an extent ppl come would down heavily on Ferrari(Testing for eg).

Ferrai is one team everyone just love to HATE.Fair enough,its a sport.
To support one,critcism of its opponents is essential.(Australian cricket uses it very cleverly)

Fair/Dirty play,PT is how one looks at it.I still believe every team adopts that policy,in which way one can only find out when we all choose to target/concentrate on one team.

Kappy, I am sure I have said this before. I used to admire Ferrari pre-Schumaker, and will do post- Schumaker. I just cannot admire a team who allow or condone a driver to use dirty tactics as frquently as Schumaker does. He is the dirtiest driver I can think of, or recall, in any classification.
Which is a bloody shame, because it takes away so much from his undeniable talent. And why I will never count him as one of the "Greats". And why I bag ferrari (as an extension of Schumaker) when the opportunity presents itself

Fernando Alonso has just done a stunning lap setting a time of 1:13.977

That is under half a second slower than the fastest time set in 2005 with V10 engines.

Raikkonen is second at the moment, 1.6 seconds behind!

There have been less red flags today!

Also maybe Ed (or anyone else) could clear this up for me. My understanding of the equivilancy formula (allowing restricted V10s to run) was that this it is a special dispensation made only for Minardi on account of their "struggling minow"/cash strapped poorer than thou situation, and that the other teams had to run V8s. I think Kolles (Midland) was making some noise on this subject owing to the fact that STR are not the poorer than thou team that Minardi were (and obviously in direct competition with Midland). Despite all this Ferrari appear to be developing a restricted V10 car.

That is true K, that was the intention but it is now part of the regulations:

Section 5.2 of the 2006 Technical Regulations states:

5.2 Alternative engines :
For 2006 and 2007 only, the FIA reserves the right to allow any team to use an engine complying with the 2005 engine regulations, provided its maximum crankshaft rotational speed does not exceed a limit fixed
from time to time by the FIA so as to ensure that such an engine will only be used by a team which does not have access to a competitive 2.4 litre V8 engine.

Note that any team may be allowed by the FIA to use a restricted V10 as long as that team can argue they don't have access to a competitive 2.4 litre engine.

In theory, even a manufacturer could argue that! The key is competitve!

As for Ferrari, I very much doubt that they are developing a restricted V10 car. The F2004 needs significant modifications to comply with the 2006 regulations and they aren't testing with the 2005 compliant car (The F2004M).
They are just using it for comparison, component testing and tyre evaluation.
