He might try that. For folks in the northern hemisphere the relocation will cost a fortune.

Simple, yet effective. All he gotta do is cross a measly pond :)

His being from Arizona I doubt that. He's shooting for a farmland kinda deal, suburban area at best.

Canberra
What does your friend do ? It may be too boring for him!

Also the Aussie dollar is a bit high these days so 200K US won't get him much. A few years ago the Aussie dipped below 50c US, it would have been good then. Now it is near 80c!!

There are many farm style properties up and down the NSW coastline. (I am sure the same applies in Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia. Even Tasmania.)
There I hope I haven't offended anyone

He's an ex-journalist. Writes a book nowadays. I guess he can scrape up some more dough if there need be. I will send him the forum address so he can login and see for himself :) Thanks a bunch.

Journalist ... Canberra could work. Lots of stories to cover over there especially with a Federal Election in 2007 :D

But Ex Journalist, perhaps he wants to be as far from politics as he can.

How about Formula 1

Melbourne is great if you like city living. I live just over an hour away from Melbourne. Close enough to get to if I want. We live down near the sea. Though actually more like Bass Straight. It is cheaper outside the city for housing. Though does depend on the money he has and whether he wants to buy or rent.
Have never been to Canberra.
He has about 200 grand (US). Wife, no kids (yet). Dreams of buying some farm-style property. I will let him know, thanks...
With so little < Nthn Territory, Far North Queensland, are the only viable options
