To make it more interesting we need more overtaking, especially in the final laps. We want, not need, others to be fighting tooth and nail for the championship but that is rare. I have been watching F1 since 1984 and most years there is one driver that dominates.

To make this championship more interesting, we need Jenson Button, Felipe Massa, Mark Webber, Nico Rosberg, and, perhaps, Fisichella[!] to start winning. We need Kimi Raikkonen to finish more races. We need Michael Schumacher to pass somebody on the track. We need the BMW, Mercedes, and Ford engines to be more competitive. We need the Toyotas to be more reliable.

I think there are many good cars out there. Unlike most years, the McLaren, the Ferrari, the BAR/Honda, the BMW/Sauber, and even the Red Bulls are good chassis. Just pay attention to the test results by the test drivers. We need more competitve engines in Formula 1. Maybe a few restrictions on what you can do with aerodynamics.

We already have a two car series between Schumacher and Alonso. If Alonso doesn't win, usually Schumacher does. How is that more interesting?

You are talking about the era of the RE30B [and the RE30A and RE20], my friend.  It was a beautiful time, before the turbos really took over [in 1983 and 1984].

The two fastest cars out there were the gorgeous and sexy Ferrari 126C2 [which may have been my screen name had it not coincided with the death of the great Gilles Villeneuve and the end of the brilliant career of Didier Pironi, who would've (should've) been the 1st French WC] and the Renault RE30B driven by Alain Prost (#15) and Rene Arnoux (#16).

The championship to which your mum probably referred to is 1981 in which the RE20, a super rocket car, may have dominated if the Renault was more reliable. The championship came down to Carlos Reutemann and Nelson Piquet (in the equally splendid Cosworth powered Brabham BT49C), who won it. 1982 was the most competive championship ever which both Renault drivers, both Ferrari drivers, McLaren's John Watson, and Keke Rosberg in the Williams challenging for the title that Rosberg took with only a single win! That engine came good late in '82, but didn't begin its juggernaut until 1984 vaulting Elio deAngelis, Nigel Mansell, and eventually one Ayrton Senna daSilva [in 1985] to superstardom powering the Lotus.

While I have you hanging ten on a wave of nostalgia, have I seen old footage of a Renault driver slapping another upside the helmet about then ?

Well, the era wasn't perfect, but 1982, the year F1 came to my hometown of Detroit, Michigan, there were about 6 teams capable of winning races, and all of them did [Ferrari, Renault, Williams, Lotus, McLaren, and Brabham]. The Talbot-Ligier was a near race winner, and the Alfas had the pace, but no reliability!

You must be talking about either Arnoux or Prost. Prost and Arnoux had a similar fallout to Didier Pironi and Gilles Villeneuve when Arnoux went against team orders and took the checkered flag at the French GP instead of pulling over to let Prost win it [Villeneuve and Pironi had a gentlemen's agreement. There were no team orders while Enzo Ferrari was alive]. Yeah, right! I'm a Frenchman dominating the French GP from pole position, and I'm supposed to slow down and let my teammate, another Frenchman, take the victory? The race was before the midway point in a season that went down to the last race!

Arnoux got along well with his other teammates. The same cannot be said for Prost. I sort of remember either Arnoux or Nelson Piquet knocking Andrea deCesaris upside the head once for taking them out of race, however. Can you share this video? If not, what did the Renault driver's helmet design look like?

:alright: :compute:

However, Alonso's dominance is even more annoying, and I can't put up with it! For once, I want Schumacher to win. For the following races: Bahrain, San Marino, Europe & Britain) I have wanted Schumacher to win. Please Schumacher stop the dominance & bring some good racing!
Fisichella4Eva :welcome:

Are you annoyed at Alonso's dominance because he is Fisichella's teammate ?

I am a bit :? , shouldn't you be wanting Fisichella to win and bring on some good racing. In theory Fisichella should have the best chance to race with Alonso but in practice ?????.

To me, I am loving this season. Alonso's dominance is well deserved so why not. Schumacher (and we all know how he drives) dominated for like 5 years while not racing within the spirit of the sport.
Alonso has yet to bump anyone, get a team order, do a silly move, hell even make a mistake. He is winning on merit and as long as he keeps winning this way, I don't care if he wins the next 7 seasons :D :D
I'm back and yes supporting Alonso "The Cute" in the Ferrari!

The regulations are constantly being tweaked to try and make the racing closer and ultimately always has the opposite effect. I say we do away with regulations...or is that just another regulation? No seriously the best thing that could happen is that F1 completely implodes and we start afresh...that wouldn't work either...hey why don't they allow more testing on race day so the drivers can sort there cars out and don't have to drive around in buckets of pee come race day. Yeah why don't they let them drive around on race morning shaking out the bugs and...they can use their engines at maximum revs for the whole of one race and not have to bother about the next race because they'll have another engine...oh b***s! I'm sure if they just left the rules alone for long enough...I'm off to MotoGP they don't seem to have any problems there...OK 250's and 125's now that is racing! :bang:

Calm down a bit Snowy. :) There are and always be regulations.. in life as well as in racing. Regulations are usually implemented by people who are power hungry and don't have as much control over things as they would like.

Eg, school principals,wives,footy coaches,
Actually Julian I think you may be just a tad biased in regards to wives. I suspect that you did not have a good relationship with your ex but not all women are bossy.... many men are bossy too.
I don't think you have been married enough times to make statements like that about every woman/wife.
