The first real shock results of the tournament!

Trinidad and Tobago making their first appearance at the World Cup and playing with 10 men for most of the second half managed to draw Nil - Nil with Sweden. It was a great match too!

England didn't play as well as I expected. I don't think the game was allowed to flow by the refs interetation of the foul rules. The offenses that the ref was penalising players for would not be penalised in the English premier league. I thought that Crouch should have been sub off in the second as he had the most trouble adapting to the ref.

Sweden will have to beat Paraguay in their next match to advance into the next round. I can't see that England or Paraguay not beating T&T.

It's amazing that T&T played most of the second half with 10 men and still came away with the draw.

Expected results in Group C (Group of death!) with Argentina beating Ivory Coast (2 - 1) and Holland beating Serbia & Montenegro (1 - 0) but neither were easy matches!

Mexico beat Iran 3 - 1. The first half was evenly matched however the Mexicans managed to score 2 more goals in the second half and win convincingly.

Way to go Socceroos! A 3 - 1 win over Japan gives Australia a real chance to get to the second round. It was tense though!

Ok, Lewis may win the WDC in 07, but Sato will beat him in 08.

The Ref tried to take the win off us (to he credit he admitted he got it wrong afterwards) but

3 - 1 .................... 3 - 1 ........................ 3 - 1 ............................... 3 - 1 ................................. 3 - 1 ................................. 3 - 1

A great result for Australia against Japan whom regard as the weakest team in their group. I don't think Australia played very well but it's the result that counts. I won't make up my mind as to whether Australia can make it into the second round until I've seen Croatia play.

If they do make it into the next round they will most probably play either Italy or the Czech Republic.

The Czech Republic looked the best side I've seen so far in their 3-0 win over the USA.

I have to agree. Australia didn't play well particularly in the first half but made up for it in the final 10 minutes!

And yes the Czech Replublic played well, no wonder they are ranked 2nd in the World.

Despite Ghana's loss to Italy, I wouldn't discount them. They had a lot of chances against the Italians but lacked the finish.

We'll finally get to see the Brazilians in action shortly!

After watching the Czech team's performance agst. the the U.S.,.......why do I get the feeling this might start looking more like their 1998 performance(0 wins, 3 losses; only 1 goal scored) instead of their 2002 performance, where they at least got into the knockout rounds.

I thought Brazil had a poor opening game to this world cup. Croatia would be happy to lose by just the 1 goal. This result could hurt Australia in the long run if the next round games go as I expect. I predict Brazil to beat Australia by three goals and Croatia to beat Japan by a couple of goals. This would mean that Australia must beat Croatia in the final round.

France and Switzerland played a uninspiring 0-0 draw. I expect both countries to qualify for the next round even thou South Korea lead the group with a 2-1 win over Togo.

Tomorrow morning sees the last four teams play their opening game. I expect both Spain and Ukraine to qualify from this group no matter what the result of their game. Tunisia and Saudi Arabia won't have much chance of getting into round two.

The last game will be the first of the teams playing their second game. If Poland don't win they will only play their last game for pride. I expect Germany to beat Poland and be the first team penciled in for the second round.
