I remember when the pits were dirty, the mechanics were greasy, (and still called mechanics, not technicians), and most team members were only too happy to join us spectators in a beer or two, as long as you were buying......... (Kyalami in the 1970's)

thanks, chaps!
I just had to respond to Julien's getting to sit in black jack's car! a half hour after the race!! I think, today, you'd be locked up for even trying to get in the garage!!!
I'm so jealous, I'm going to go up to the museum at Indy tomorrow and try to top you!
the old days were wild, but on the other hand, the racing was VERY dangerous, wasn't it? no wonder the guys acted in ways that seem untoward to us today; they were really brave --and they were really good --and they didn't last (a lot of them) very long!
I have to recommend a book for you: Brock Yates' "Death and Speed" (or something like that); it centers around a year of terrible losses including Bill Vukovich at Indy when he had the race (#3 in a row) almost in the bag and the HUGE Merc shunt at LeMans that wiped out a grandstand.
Here's a quote I remember from it: "If you're under control, you aren't trying hard enough!" --Parnelli Jones. Imagine one of our corporate lads saying something like that!
On to San Marino!

My Racing Gods: Fangio, Vukovich; Senna & Mears --all racers all the time; graceful winners & generous in defeat, but never giving up!!

I leaned against Stirling Moss's car while Dad discussed with The Mechanic what had caused it to fail, in the same race. Stirling's goggles n gloves, n helmet were on the seat, and I came very close to committing a crime

I hope this is the reason, because otherwise it was a brain fart for Jensy!<T-K> wrote:As it happened, one of the commentators(I'm not quite sure which one) mentioned that that must've been why he pulled over instead of coasting over the line........thats all I heard on the situation, no real proof, I dont think Honda have said too much on the situation either.....F1-NUT wrote: Hi Andre. I've not read anything since the race where it was suggested that Honda threw away the points for a better starting position in San Marino, but you are saying that's what they did!!!!!!

In 8 'N' Pole for Imola, I chose Alonso, Button and Nico Rosberg for the podium. I believe Nico will startle a lot of people. Keke was a damn pitbull behind the wheel. He has been mentoring his kid since birth. I saw Nico in Formula 3 race last year, and he was brilliant until he crashed.Jim Watt wrote:And I think there'll be pandemonium when we have a podium this year with Nico standing ABOVE JB! I hope I see it!! I really really really hope I do!!! Where the ranking is Renault - Williams - Honda. Or, even better, Williams - Renault - Honda!
Ah, sweet dreams of glory. It's what keeps me coming back.

Jensy is particularly good on compromise circuits like Imola, Montreal, and the new Nurburgring. Let's hope he does well. Personally, I don't believe anyone will beat Alonso in a straight fight including Schuey. Only if FA has problems during the race or qualifying.
