Yes but Jenson did get away and held him off for a lap.

So the tide might be turning, without the safety car cooling Jenson's tyres, having to go off line and subsequent graining we might have seen a very different race. I do not doubt for one minute that Alonso would have passed Jens in the pits or on the track but I reckon he would have kept the Mclaren's at bay and bagged a P2.
I remember when they introduced the pace car... I thought what a load of crap and every race since then that has involved the pace car has made me repeat that word and a few others I cannot print. The pace car is an abomination before god and as I have stated before on this Forum it was the pace car that was directly responsible for the death of Ayton Senna
