Yes but Jenson did get away and held him off for a lap. So the tide might be turning, without the safety car cooling Jenson's tyres, having to go off line and subsequent graining we might have seen a very different race. I do not doubt for one minute that Alonso would have passed Jens in the pits or on the track but I reckon he would have kept the Mclaren's at bay and bagged a P2.

I remember when they introduced the pace car... I thought what a load of crap and every race since then that has involved the pace car has made me repeat that word and a few others I cannot print. The pace car is an abomination before god and as I have stated before on this Forum it was the pace car that was directly responsible for the death of Ayton Senna

Death to the pace car  long live live motorsport with all the :duel: rescedualing that intails

There does seem to be a consensus on the Renault having a rearward weight bias, but if its that simple why isnt everyone doing it?

One thing that struck me on Sunday was the extreme way the Renault drivers power-slide-weave (I can't find a better way of describing it) their cars before a start/restart. They seem to be much more aggressive than everyone else at this and maybe they get a lot more heat into the tyres then everyone else and this explains the quick getaway.

The other drivers seem to try to copy them but cant do it as consistently and aggressively, or just limit themselves to straight line burnouts with a mild waft of the steering wheel. But those blue and yellow things, remember just before he took his place on the grid for the start at Malaysia, FA had his car almost completely sideways!. Maybe the Renaults have a tyre-warm-up TC mode that enables this manouvre, (not suggesting for a second that would be illiegal, just very clever)

I do wonder whether Monty was trying to emulate this as he came round the final turn before the start.

They haven't got the weight at the rear to manifest their aggression :burnout: :burnout::burnout::burnout::burnout::burnout:
