Mclaren said "We have a number of different modes of operation with the engine. We have economy, super economy and full mode and certainly in the lesser modes of control there was something in the engine that we were trying to track down all weekend that gave him a slight element of disadvantage.
"It's the same engine this weekend but we have got a bit more time to study it now. We cannot change the mechanics of the engine but we are allowed to change the software and the mapping.
"With a bit of detailed analysis maybe we can find something there to give him more confidence in the operating regimes of the engine."
From this statement it would appear that JPM wasn't lacking the top end power to stop Jenson overtaking him. He was just economising

He didn't want to, the software was faulty.Snowy wrote:Why economise?Julian Mayo wrote:ok, times up. In economy mode he does not get to apply full power exiting a corner, which means, particularly with a v8, that he is going to be significantly slower at the far end of the straight.

Hi Mayo, Snowy.
I'm back for a quick bit of GP chat in an internet cafe in the middle of nowhere.
True, Barricello had a missing gear that put him way off the pace. But not in Qually! Look, I'm not a Button nut, but it's obvious Button is a better driver than Rubino. I really like Barricello, but I would be surprised (and pleased) if he were to strat pushing Button. But I can't see it. Nevertheless, we will see how things pan out in the next few GPs.
And yes, Snowy, I really dislike Schuie, I think the way he knocked Damon Hill off the road to win his first championship was disgraceful. How he could hold his head up after that I don't know - or perhaps I do. But you have to admit, he's great behind the wheel and in the pits. I don't have to like him to respect his talent. That's what makes me wonder why everyone seems to dislike Button, but are ignoring his driving talent. Dislike him for whatever reason, but he's a great driver. And in ref to Rubino's missing gear - where does bad luck come from anyway? I don't believe in it. Look at Sato last year - same car, but loads of problems. Look at Schuie's 'luck' - he has tonnes of it - it's not luck, it's knowing how to drive the car under you to its limit without damaging it. MS won a GP with only 5th gear!
Maybe Button ultimately will be an 'also ran'. He's had plenty of GPs to prove it, but let's face it - this year is make or break for Jenson. I'm just happy that it seems close and many teams are vying for the points. And of course, I will be shouting at Button to get to the first corner in the lead of every GP and falling of my sofa and knocking over my pile of empty cans of booze in shock and celebration if he actually does it
C'mon, we all love F1 don't we?

Hi F1-Nut hi everyone
Jenson is not in a make or break year, everyone who matters in the pitlane knows how good he is. There is a great deal of faith coming from Honda and it will take another couple of years to use that up.
Ruben's is quick and will show that Jenson is quicker and better than people think.

Snowy, I hope for his sake, your sake, F1-nuts sake, the sake of formula 1,Snowy wrote:Hi F1-Nut hi everyone

the sake of England that he does find success. The in car camera shots show that he has trouble with understeer and oversteer, apart from that, he is very , very smooth..
If he does not perform, which team will have him?
Who will believe him when he puts pen to paper ?
The good news is, as I understand it, He will be at Honda for another 2 seasons.......its going to take him that long to repay the Williams payout.
In what capacity? Well may you ask
The sad thing is he is right up there with Mark, Alonso, JPM, Schuey,DC,JV,Fisi, et al.
Kimi and young Nico inhabit a different world to those mere mortals.
As did JV's dad.
Senna.
Fangio.
And one or two others who can/could enter the "zone" when they need to.
