This is true, however there is decent enough reason to believe that he could make the switch successfully. Damon Hill did it. Mike Hailwood did it in the 60s. I think even Froilan Gonzalez "the Pampas Bull" raced motorbikes before Formula 1 like in the 30s or something.

I was in Spain and saw him race. He is like the "Ayrton Senna" of motorcycles. He is supremely talented.

Keep hope alive! :D

K-D, your moniker is the same as my late great dog. Rock on!
I agree that he is an extremely talented Motorcycle racer, but regardless og how many names you throw at me. The thread-starter is suggesting that he jumps straight into f1, and that is NOT possible.

Hill raced junior formulas, FFord, F3 and F3000 for several seasons, before he got a break into a poor tema in F1. Then he became a testdriver with Williams, finally clinching a race seat.

I do not know the details of Hailwoods accent (seppling) into F1, and and no idea of the Pampas Bull either, however I doubt that they went strainght from Motorcycle racing to F1.

In the back of my mind I think that Jonny cecotto was a Motorcycle racer before he started racing cars.

Was it not lawson who tried to become a CART racer, and "failed" - Failed as in he was at best an average middle of the field racer.

If Rossi decide to turn to autoracing, he can NOT switch directly into F1.

So I am not that old yet, I investigated Cecotto and found the following:

1975
--
Cecotto gathered 54 points in 250cc and finished 4th overall in the world championship. He became world champion in the 350cc class with a total of 78 points.

1977
--
Cecotto gathered 30 points in 350cc and finished 10th overall in the world championship. He became 4th in the world championship 500cc class with a total of 50 points.

1978
--
Cecotto gathered 66 points in 500cc and finished 3rd overall in the world championship.

1980
--
Cecotto gathered 37 points in 350cc and finished 4th overall in the world championship. He became 6th in the world championship 500cc class with a total of 31 points.

The season I do not show he raced as well, but had a number of injuries meaning that he did not place highly in the Championships.

But Cecotto was a very good Motorcycle racer before he moved to cars.

As an additional triviabit, which my combobulated mind find amusing. His hemlet desig was made in honor of his great hero Jarno Saurinin, after Saurinen died. The same Jarno Saurinin, after whom Jarno Trulli is named.

Small thing like Superlicense could be one obstacle.

Other could be that in contempoary F1 car he has sofar been 4 seconds of pace. Hardly the thing legends are made of.

I do think that he is an awesome Motorcycle racer, but we have seen to many "normal" autoracers being hyped before they made it to F1, that I am willing to accept him directly into a F1 seat.

:?

So why are we discussing his possible entry into Formula1 if he is strictly a motorbike racer?

No one has answered my question :furious:

Well John Surtees is the only driver to have won both the Motorcyle and Formula 1 Championships and he switched from Bikes to F1 straight away. See K-D, I am sure you would have guessed had you tried to think a little. I know it hurts but no pain no gain

Off what pace ? The lap record ? How many laps did he do, how many days ?
