And possibly a few times more in the second round of the playoffs :)

Leafs and Islanders stand a better chance but I want to believe that one of em will blow it, allowing Canes to make it to the playoffs.

On the other hand West seems to have settled everything with 15-odd games to go... I am really sorry to see the Avalanche bow out so early... East is more exciting right now :cheer:

Hmm, the race is heating up. In the east Rangers, Canes, Canadiens, Islanders and Maple Leafs all are in contention for the final two playoff spots. The way I see it Rangers and Canes should make it but Islanders have an advantage in that they have played less games.

The West seems to have settled already. I don't believe Colorado can make it to the top 8 within the final 8 games or so. The only question is how will the matchups shape up in the playoffs.

Hey mlittle any predictions about the possible matchups?

Let's see; where to start, where to start..............

In the West.................
With the division leaders getting seeds 1-3, it's almost a crapshoot as to who the top-3 will be(currently Nashville, Anaheim and Vancouver); winning the division's important because should you fail to collect a division title, you drop from P1-P3 down to P4. If I had to guess, though.....
#8 Calgary vs. #1 Nashville
#5 San Jose vs. #4 Detroit
#6 Minnesota vs. #3 Vancouver
#7 Dallas vs. #2 Anaheim

In the East.....................
The East is another story; it looks like Buffalo has locked up the #1 seed, while New Jersey has locked up #2. There are two battles of note} 1--In the Southeast Division, Atlanta and Tampa Bay are separated by two points, with Carolina just 4 pts. behind. Whoever wins btwn. Atl. and T.Bay gets likely #3, while the loser will likely drop down to #6, and 2--Positions 6-11 are still in flux; right now, seeds 6-8 are Tampa Bay, NY Ranger and Carolina, while 9-11 are Montreal, NY Islanders, and Toronto. Any one of those six could break out and move into #5 or maybe #4(a lot will depend on whether Atlanta or Tampa Bay wins the SE. Likely first-round matchups look like........
#8 Carolina vs. #1 Buffalo
#5 Pittsburgh vs. #4 Ottawa
#6 Tampa Bay vs. #3 Atlanta
#7 NY Rangers vs #2 New Jersey

With one week remaining, here are the likely playoff fields in each conference..................

In the East...............
#8 Montreal vs. #1 Buffalo
#5 Pittsburgh vs #4 Ottawa
#6 NY Rangers vs #3 Atlanta
#7 Tampa Bay vs #2 New Jersey
~~the last major fight, it appears, will be for division honors in the Atlantic Division btwn. Pittsburgh and New Jersey; whoever wins the division will likely slot into the 2-seed, while the loser likely slots either into the 4-seed or 5-seed

In the West...................
#8 Calgary vs #1 Detroit
#5 Dallas vs #4 Nashville
#6 San Jose vs #3 Vancouver
#7 Minnesota vs #2 Anaheim
~~The top-8 are set; the only question appears to be who will win their respective divisions(Detroit or Nashville in the Central; San Jose, Anaheim or Dallas in the Pacific and either Vancouver or Minnesota in the Northwest)

The only certain thing, though, is this......unless the Canes' win their last three games of the season(and get LOTS of help from other teams), there likely will be two new teams fightin' for ole' Lord Stanley's Cup......

Tough luck for the Hurricanes... They deserve to be higher up. I remember them playing in the East finals just like yesterday.
