Red Bull Racing have announced that Peter Prodromou, McLaren's Chief Aerodynamicist will join the team later this year when his contract with McLaren expires.
This follows Adrian Newey's signing with Red Bull in November 2005.
This raises concern at McLaren with 2 key figures in the aero department moving to another team. Will there be more defections ?
While at Red Bull Racing, it is clear that they are very serious about their invlovement in F1. They will be running Ferrari engines in 2006 but with such high calibre staff, they will most certainly look for a works engine supplier for 2007 or 2008 at the most.

Y is this happening?
Mclaren almost won the title last year.
Mclaren have signed up 2005 champion for 2007.
Mclaren could possibily have 2 champions driving for them next year(If KIMI or JUAN won in 2006) or diouble champion(if Alonso wins)
Mclaren have an awesome office.
Mclaren's top employees gets one of the best office car.

This happens all the time. I don't think there is any need to panic. Afterall The Cute is joining them
Seriously, the highly regarded Gascoyne left Renault to Toyota a couple of years ago and Renault still won the title.
McLaren will regroup and be ready in 2007

It IS happening for those reasons mate. If you are designing one of the best cars on the grid, a team further down with lots of cash will be interested in offering you "new challenges". The largest challenge will be figuring out what to do with the bucket loads of cold hard cash you are now getting.Kapel wrote:Y is this happening?

Ok, Lewis may win the WDC in 07, but Sato will beat him in 08.
Re: McLaren's Chief Aerodynamicist to join Red Bull
Newey wants to beat McLaren, Ferrari and Williams with Red Bull. He will do it! Red Bull is spending major dinero on F1. DC is a driver he knows can win in his cars, and Christian Klein is young, fast, smart, and underrated. It is a perfect scenario for major drama this season.Ed wrote:Red Bull Racing have announced that Peter Prodromou, McLaren's Chief Aerodynamicist will join the team later this year when his contract with McLaren expires.

I hope the cars live up to the hype. Can you imagine if they do? What a season it could be:
Kimi and a pissed off JPM at McLaren;
Alonso and Fisi at Renault;
Nico Rosberg at Williams [w/ former McLaren man Wurz testing!];
MS and Ferrari [totally focused on Mike];
DC and Klein at Red Bull [w/ Ferrari power in a Newey designed machine];
Heidfeld at BMW [w/ confidence and backing];
Trulli at Toyota [stepping up their game].
I can dream can't I?

I suspect the ferrari customer engines may lack a couple of neddies mid season, should Red Bull threaten their chances
