i will put mine in order. feel free to criticise;

1. Alonso - Leads the championship. Showed a lot of talent in Monaco drive
2. Kimi - Will win the WDC this year I believe
3. Schumacher - How do you leave a 7 time WDC out. Love him or hate him you MUST respect his ability.
4. Button - Has had a tough start but once BAR got their s**t together he finished 3rd. (Even though then got DQ'd)
5. Webber - Is consistently quick in Qual. Let down by Williams poor starts. Been beaten twice by team-mate. 1st time poor strategy cost him, 2nd time poor start & team cost him. Otherwise NH doesn't look like finishing anywhere near him.
There are no stupid questions, only stupid people.......

My top 5

Alonso The Cute (10 points) - Perfect finish record so far. If his car doesn't chew he would have won 5 out of 6
Raikkonen (9.8 points) - Very fast but a bit hard on cars
Montoya (9.6 points) - Will soon match Raikkonen. Sometimes goes off but I like drivers with character
Trulli (9.4 points) - He has improved so much from last year
Villeneuve (9.1 points) - How could I leave out JV :D

Worthy mentions:

Ralfie (9.05 points  ) - When a Toyota starting from the back beats 2 Ferraris in Monaco, the driver must be worth something

Button (potential) - He only finished once and was then disqualified. He could make it in the top 5 in 5 races but not now

As for Mr. Michael (R-7-R-2-R-7) - Why should he be in the top 5 for this year ? When he starts winning or at least start being conistent, I'll consider :D
I'm back and yes supporting Alonso "The Cute" in the Ferrari!

Kapel and K-D are spot on,

1.Michael(how can anybody doubt that?)  :P

2.Kimi and Fernando(just a fraction behind), +0.1sec per lap(race)

3.a group incl.Juan Pablo, Rubens, Jenson, Ralf, +0.15sec per lap(race)

4.a group incl.Fisico, Mark, Nick, Jarno, Felipe, +0.2sec per lap(race)

Obviously some drivers are particularly strong in Qualifying, e.g.Jarno and Mark, others are better racers, e.g.Nick and Ralf but in total it all evens out a lot. I find it amazing that Michael holds this position since 12 years :!:   :D :!:

We have the oportunity to do a real comparison of drivers when they are teammates... so is obvious Rubens will be after MS... After the last 3 years of JPM & Ralf in Willimas, how can you put them in the same level?
in case JPM is in your 3rd level, I think you should put Ralf at least in the 4th... (or Montoya in the 2nd and leave ralf in the 3rd...)
what do you say?

I agree Sgd,

Ralf in the past 3 years with JPM has sometimes shown good/outclass performance. But the ratio,i would say is 10:3 tilted in JPM's favour :D

it's hard to criticise because it's your personal point of view, but Button and Webber better than Montoya?
Webber do very good Q-er but in races fade away.(On the F1 analysis i've heard already twice that Webber is a hard cooker... at least that would explain VERY good his Q and race performances...)
Button is good overall (i think) but is a looser by nature, not a F1 winner driver...

Cheers!

The question was for the fastest, not necessarily the most efficient, drivers..

If you take results by points you might get another picture but I ranked the drivers as I see their pure race speed.

As an example Fernando looks several classes better than Fisico on points this year but in reality the difference is just a fraction of a second.

Overall Id say Juan Pablo and Ralf are pretty evenly matched, a bit similar like Mark and Nick. Im aware of the fact that Juan Pablo and Mark are faster on a single lap or for a few hot race laps but Ralf and Nick are much more consistent.

Rubens is highly underrated, even more than DC. I hope he can show his class this year which is by far his worst since joining FERRARI.

sgd, are you sure you mean Webber not Weber (cause that is a real hard cooker :D :D )?

What do you mean Button is good overall but is a looser by nature :wha: Please Explain :crush:

I know it is pretty late but I still think I am reading this right

Never heard of a looser being good overall :rolling: :ROTFLMAO:

I think if Ralf would be more consistent then Montoya, the last year he'd done a lot more points then Montoya, as the new score system which prizes consistency was adopted. any way i won't disscus more on that. i clearly see our opinions about them won't change.

i can understand a person who after the last 3 years thinks that Montoya and Ralf are pretty evenly matched, can as well think that MS is the best.

I didn't mentioned Rubens, and you bring him to the disscusion...
It's difficult to talk about rubens for me because of kapel, but if I say what i think.... in my opinion Rubens is not underrated, he generally is neither overrated. I only observe a strong trend from the MS fans to over-rate him. that's my point of view.

btw explain that trend is quite easy. but it would hurt many here, so I prefer to let it that way.
