Despite incurring a pre-race penalty for doing practice standing starts in the morning warm-up, outgoing 4-time series champion Sebastien Bourdais closed out one of the more stellar careers in NA open-wheel racing with a win at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit this afternoon, winning today's Tecate Grand Prix of Mexico.
At the drop of the lights(ya' know, I'm starting to like standing starts......

) polesitter Will Power took the early lead only to lose the lead to Bourdais just before the first round of stops......after that, it was lights out on the field. By race's end, Bourdais held off a late charge by the Aussie to win his 31st career ChampCar win by 1.905 seconds; Bourdais ends his ChampCar career tied for 8th-all time with "Little" Al Unser, Jr. and Paul Tracy, both of whom have 31 wins to their credit.
The emotions flowed freely on the podium as Bourdais broke down in tears as the events of the day and the past five years washed over him; joining him on the podium were Team Australia's Will Power and PKV Racing's Oriol Servia.
