I was all in favour of the Bahrain Grand Prix 2012 happening until I found out that the Royal Bahraini Family own half of one of the major F1 teams. Normally, I think that sport and politics should be separate, but in this instance, I think the Bahrain Grand Prix 2012 should not go ahead and not happen again until both sides can reach agreement and peace comes to Bahrain Island

I personally am not in favour of them going there. Safety has to be a big issue and even though it is going ahead I would love to know what the teams and drivers really think of this decision.
Something we probably never know!!!

Why is this race going ahead. Two members of Force India have gone home
now.

"The team member was granted permission by Force India chiefs to head back to the UK, after a rented van carrying his colleagues was caught up in a Molotov cocktail attack on the return trip from the circuit late on Wednesday.

"They weren't targeted. They just happened to be there," said the Sakhir circuit's chairman Zayed R Alzayani, according to the BBC."

He went on to say that there would probably be more incidents before the weekend is over!!!

I don't think anyone in F1 wants to go to Bahrain but all the teams are contractually bound and Ecclestone as well as the FIA seem to be under immense pressure to go ahead with the race.
Jean Todt, the President of the FIA is clearly not comfortable with the decision but he had to go along.

This doesn't help those on the ground who have reluctantly gone to Bahrain and are under the threat of being sacked if they choose not to go (like the Williams catering person who was).

The position of Force India is a bit strange, they decide not to run for the second practice so as to avoid their mechanics go to the hotel late and face petrol bombs yet they will take part in qualifying and the race meaning the mechanics will still go back to their hotel or airport late on Saturday and Sunday!
Unless they feel that the event may still be cancelled!

It won't be cancelled (especially at this stage).

We just have to hope that everyone is safe and there is no trouble.

Not enough info to really decide Rolling Eyes

On the one hand, there is merit to say going there is showing support for an oppressing regime, since they sponsor the event.

On the other hand I rather agree that cancelling is akin to empowering the extremists which is not great either. Confused

Could every one, like, sit around a table and find a solution for the country? Party6
