We perhaps have the first view of the difference between Bridgestone's prime and the option tyre. Jenson pits on lap 42 and there is a big drop off in pace, a second slower for the first full lap, then subsequent laps are as much as 1.5 seconds adrift of what was achieved during start of the second stint. Very gradually the tyre starts to improve in performance until it is as little as 0.5s adrift of the preferred tyre option. (Which may or may not have been the softer).

Caviat:
Fuel may be a factor, however it is fair to assume that there would have been at least two laps of fuel in the tank when he made his final stop so the difference in fuel loads should not have been that great between stints.

Thank you Snowy.........................given that Hambone, MW n Vettel are bearing down on him as he exits the pits, those tyres are going to get a hell of a lot hotter, a hell of a lot quicker, after all the guy is a......... RACER..........bugger the pit orders, he ain't going down a lap for anyone, then comes the graining, the tyres going off a lot faster, cos he out-braked MW going into Ascari,.but MW unleashed the hounds.(KERS) going down the short straight.... but Seb got in the way...........etc.............. :conf3:

Thanks Snowy, certainly some interesting data.

Tryes will certainly be more of a factor this season especially in the early stages. KERS as well as accidents as a result of the wider front wing will also be main factors that aren't really represented by the test times.

I think we are set for an exciting season, I just hope that luck won't play a big role.

The more I think about it, the more I am leaning towards thinking that Brawn are trying to impress sponsors. However they do have some speed and they seem to be reliable too. I very much doubt though that they will be at the front of the grid in Melbourne. 3rd row would be more likely.
As for McLaren, they won't be at the back of the grid but it doesn't look that they will be at the front either.

I on the other hand, confidently predict a front row start for at least one Brawn GP car in Melbourne, the other on the second row. I also predict that one McLaren will only just narrowly outqualify a Force India car and that the other will be behind two Torro Rosso's.

 Barrichello fastest again, and ran more than 100 laps without a problem. Alonso took the nose off the Renault, which is not unusual for anyone exploring the adhesion limits in testing................. 8)
