Interesting time from RB, where did that come from?
Have no idea but Jenson has found some more and all of a sudden Honda seem to be in a whole different league from a week ago. However there is a distinct possiblity that Alonso will be in action tomorrow and then we'll have a whole different ball game.

Has Lewis raced here before? He seems terribly quick for a first visit. Perhaps the Mclaren simulator (that he is said to be all time champion of) is uncannily acurate.

Of course his been here before Bahrain has a GP2 race  Still he certainly is a bit quick for a rookie.

Bahrain again

Had to do a lot of searching for these morning session times so they are even more unofficial than the unofficial times so take them with a pinch of salt as they could be totally ficticious(is that a typo or don't I know how to spell fictitious?). The only thing I can say about them is I didn't make them up!

In case NICKs time is correct :?:  , I wouldnt read anything into the other times....

Probably the 1st day is more of relevance - an immediately fast FERRARI :D  closely followed by MCLAREN :) and HONDA 8) . RENAULT :P look to be rather in fighting form than supremacy....

TOYOTA  and RED BULL  seem to have missed the point

Looking forward to MELBOURNE :o , I cant wait!!! :? :? :?

Those times came originally from the Renault testing blog! Which has spent one and a half days going into meltdown. It makes very interesting reading if you are a masochistic net addict on acid! I think the times are as accurate as any you're likely to find and of course they don't really tell us that much. I think we should start a petition to have detailed accounts of all testing times at all test sessions and tracks. Like the one's we used to get from Barcelona  :? I was really looking forward to that test and all we got was peanuts. . . not even edible ones! Ones like you find at the bar on a Sunday morning that had been rounded up from under the tables during the previous week :x

Renault's site has posted these as the final times of the day but there is some dissagreement as to whether or not the session has actually finished. This really is a fun little party they're having over at Renault! And interestingly Kimi's time has receeded!

1. Heidfeld BMW-Sauber (B) 1:30.469 103
2. Alonso McLaren-Mercedes (B) 1:31.225 64

15. Liuzzi Toro Rosso-Ferrari (B) 1:34.187 24

The official FIA site has been quiet all day submitting nothing, unofficially.

The official unofficial times tally with those of Renault so all's well that ends well officially. :) That officially concludes this unofficial representation of testing reportage of Bahrain testing official, unofficially or non-officially. Thank you for your indulgence and please excuse mine. 8)

I mean the 2 seconds between NICK and ROBERT are galaxies in F1, both having done some 100 laps and ROBERT probably not a slower driver. So where can be the point in the times really?

Only thing we can say is BMW is damn quick, and TOYOTA and RED BULL struggle. Anything else is totally in the dark, IMO.

MELBOURNE, please

PS.Julian, did MARK do another bad switch? Sorry, looks like he did

A little birdie told me that Kimi was doing the more consistent laps over long runs. I don't know if that is significant.

It's warmer than in previous tests in Spain, in fact quite a lot hotter in the afternoon. Which might explain Honda's resurgence - they are still having trouble getting heat into their tyres.

As for BMW we can only assume that they are going to run away with the championship this year. Either that or they are doing some very curious sandbagging!

Maybe he is acclimitising to the new seat.....you know, deciding where to put the stubby holder etc.
I am quite quietly confident in a quite quietly way that, given DC's fastest lap the other day, that all times from testing are about as useful to us as a dead rhoddodendron. 8)

Thanks Snowy for posting the times for the first 2 days of testing in Bahrain. We have been distracted by a few things that we haven't provided updates

For both the 1st and 2nd days, your second lot of times match what the Bahrain Circuit report, we will list them again below as they show lap numbers as well (the lap numbers for the second day are more than what you have posted)

Day 1 (Thursday)
1 Felipe Massa Scuderia Ferrari 1m 31.766s 86 laps
2 Kimi Räikkonen Scuderia Ferrari 1m 31.901s 47 laps
3 Jenson Button Honda Racing F1 Team 1m 32.099s 83 laps
4 Lewis Hamilton Vodafone McLaren Mercedes 1m 32.182s 83 laps
5 Rubens Barrichello Honda Racing F1 Team 1m 32.570s 101 laps
6 Pedro de la Rosa Vodafone McLaren Mercedes 1m 32.621s 47 laps
7 Sebastian Vettel BMW Sauber F1 Team 1m 32.652s 104 laps
8 Jarno Trulli Panasonic Toyota Racing 1m 32.787s 33 laps
9 Nick Heidfeld BMW Sauber F1 Team 1m 32.810s 49 laps
10 Heikki Kovalainen ING Renault F1 Team 1m 33.139s 113 laps
11 Anthony Davidson Super Aguri F1 Team 1m 33.396s 76 laps

15 Ralf Schumacher Panasonic Toyota Racing 1m 35.265s 35 laps
16 Vitantonio Liuzzi Scuderia Toro Rosso 1m 36.345s 25 laps

According to McLaren the max track temperature was 38.9 while BMW reported a maxumim of 34 degrees

Day 2 (Friday)
1 Nick Heidfeld BMW Sauber F1 Team 1m 30.469s 114 laps
2 Fernando Alonso Vodafone McLaren Mercedes 1m 31.225s 72 laps
3 Jenson Button Honda Racing F1 Team 1m 31.807s 117 laps
4 Lewis Hamilton Vodafone McLaren Mercedes 1m 31.931s 95 laps
5 Robert Kubica BMW Sauber F1 Team 1m 32.220s 108 laps
6 Kimi Räikkonen Scuderia Ferrari 1m 32.240s 75 laps
7 Nelsinho Piquet ING Renault F1 Team 1m 32.539s 90 laps
8 Felipe Massa Scuderia Ferrari 1m 32.584s 70 laps
9 Rubens Barrichello Honda Racing F1 Team 1m 32.614s 73 laps
10 Heikki Kovalainen ING Renault F1 Team 1m 32.973s 74 laps
11 Mark Webber Red Bull Racing 1m 33.139s 71 laps
12 Jarno Trulli Panasonic Toyota Racing 1m 33.155s 98 laps
13 Anthony Davidson Super Aguri F1 Team 1m 33.246s 119 laps
14 David Coulthard Red Bull Racing 1m 33.930s 46 laps
15 Vitantonio Liuzzi Scuderia Toro Rosso 1m 34.187s 32 laps
16 Ralf Schumacher Panasonic Toyota Racing 1m 34.464s 55 laps

According to McLaren the max track temperature was 49.4 while BMW reported a maxumim of 36 degrees. One wonders what the criteria is!

The time set by Heidfeld on the second day is very impressive. For comparison, the fastest time set in Bahrain with 2006 spec cars was by Michael Schumacher with a 1:30.723!
Pole time in 2006 was a 1:31.431
Heidfeld managed a faster time with what is supposed to be slower tyres!!

It does sound as a huge gap however BMW Sauber have confirmed that Heidfeld's time was during a qualifying simulation. It was Kubica's first day in Bahrain and I don't think he has ever driven an F1 car in Bahrain before so that explains the time difference.

From BMW Sauber:
In a trouble-free morning session Kubica started by finding a baseline set-up as it was his first day of testing in Bahrain. He then continued with further set-up work. Heidfeld carried out the scheduled aerodynamic tests and did a qualifying simulation during which he set today’s overall fastest lap.
