MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi expects to race in Saturday's Dutch Grand Prix despite breaking a bone in his hand in a free practice crash at Assen.

The 27-year-old Italian 'high-sided' his bike about halfway through the opening session and was taken to hospital for further checks.

The team said Rossi had fractured a small bone in his right hand and dislocated another in his ankle but was otherwise unhurt and could decide to return for the second afternoon practice session.

Ducati's Spaniard Sete Gibernau is absent from Assen after requiring surgery for a fractured collarbone. No great loss!!!

Thanks JacFan...

Yes, Rossi is fit and ready to race............after his incident, Rossi was sent straight to the Clinica Mobile, and then moved on to the Assen Hospital, where he was diagnosed with hairline fractures to his right hand and left ankle, plus chest bruising and a haematoma on his right elbow....although He suddenly appeared in the pits just before the second free practice session started, in full leathers, hopped back on his bike, and went out to try and regain lost ground........thats dedication for you

Another rider to have a pretty serious accident was Toni Elias, who has suffered a fracture to his left shoulder......he was initially treated at the Clinica Mobile, and then returned to free practice, but the pain did not subside and he was eventually declared unfit to race.....he has gone back home to Barcona where he will be examined by Dr Xavier Mir.

It is also still uncertain as to whether or not Capirossi will be able to race this weekend.......He went out for the first two sessions, but complained that he was having difficulty breathing....

Loris Capirossi:
"I'm not feeling at all good, I didn't expect to feel so much pain and to find it so difficult to ride the bike. Once I started riding I realised the situation was much more difficult than we had expected. If the race was today there would be no way I could do it. My chest is very painful and although the mesotherapy and physio that the Clinica Mobile has given me has helped, it doesn't solve the problem. My intention is to ride tomorrow but maybe I will need more pain-killers. The race will be really hard but I won't give up.

Actually there are more drivers I like than don't like. However I am not a big fan of John Bowe. Greg Murphy can sometimes be a bit of winger.
